As someone with a disability, that has certain medical needs throughout the day. I was disappointed to see that Reform are cutting back the opportunity of working from home. As someone with numerous medical conditions I understand that sometimes with a medical condition, the biggest challenge of the day is simply getting out of bed, let alone leaving the house. Working from home can be the difference between someone with a disability or health condition, from, being unemployed or working. As a Green Party councillor I will commit to pushing for, the protection of working from home. Allowing those, who, have complex medical care needs to be supported. I want to also protect Council. hubs especially in South Wigston allowing people to walk to work and saving the need to drive or take a bus, which can save valuable personal time and the environment.

Cutting support from people who live complex and challenging lives won't help the economy grow, it'll just leave millions of disabled people and their families in poverty. Nigel Farage and reform are not the answer. Cutting diversity jobs and flying a flag from our council building's won't save millions and save your council services it'll just alienate again the most vulnerable in society and mean they don't access the services they need, leading to more money being spent to support them. Firstly everyone has the right to the support they need to live a independent and healthy life. Secondly everyone has the right to be treated with fairness and equality whilst expressing themselves as they wish as long as it doesn't offend others. Freedom of speech and expression isn't a luxury it's a basic human right and taking that away puts humanity on a slippery slope I love the UK and everything it stands for, however I I love how we've passed laws such as the Equality Act (2010( in order that everyone regardless of Race, Disability Gender Religion Age Nationally can have the same access to employment and services sadly those rights are being taken away, voting Green will ensure thlse rights are protected.

Good afternoon

I am James Bayliss I am have been selected to run for the Green Party in the Leicestershire County Council election on May 1st 2025 for South and West Wigston

Why I am running?

That's a good question I'll try to answer it as briefly as I can without sending you to sleep.

Firstly I am 36 years and have lived in Wigston/ South Wigston since 2009 and despite living with cerebral palsy all my life and yo add yo this I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 2023 following major surgery. Despite the challenges I fave in life, I have always strived to succeed in any challenge I have faced. Three examples highlight this, getting elected to Youth Parliament in 2008 & Scope assembly last year., I have also completed a degree in politics and masters degree in international relations in 2012 & 2018. Not bad for a person who wasn't predicted to walk or talk..

Having got my education in Politics and international relations, I understand how local government should work and I feel that residents here in South and West Wigston haven't been served well by a majority Tory County Council or by a Liberal Democrat Oadby and Wigston BC. This hasn't changed in the last 25 years and you've seen a sharp decline in services and a sharp increase in Council tax. I believe you deserve a good return for your money so make the following 5 pledges.

1. Protect local residents from the cuts by making cure money advice charities such as Helping Hands remain open and available to you more times a week with extra funding.. Also campaigning to ensure everyone gets better benefit and pension advice and support from Despite so we can keep you safe warm and fed.

2 make sure Green spaces are protected by keeping them, sustainable accessible affordable and safe for all to enjoy. By stopping Oadby and Wigston BC from removing bins will help keep the parks clean and we need to ensure extra access for those using wheelchairs and walking AIDS to. Any cost of our parks and the connected parking should be avoided where possible. I will organize clean up days involving students and young people to keep our parks and green spaces tidy..

3. Housing I understand new houses need to built to meet the demands of the growing population in Leicester and Leicestershire however the current plans aren't affordable or sustainable and don't meet the demands of current local infrastructure and would place strain on roads schools and medical facilities. This isn't fair on local residents and these plans need to be reviewed by the Brough and County Council's to ensure everyone's needs are met

4. Access to public transport, this is a major issue for me, as a disabled resident I have no ability to drive, so heavily rely on public transport. Here in South Wigston as a volunteer station adoptee I know, the train station, could do with better security and lighting along with more refuse facilities and improved accessible and sitting for disabled and elderly passengers. I will. Work with network Rail to achieve this.. Also push for a least one train a hour in non peak times.. Buses regularly serve South and West Wigston, with the 44 and 47/8 services running every 15 minutes. However people are forced to stand waiting for a bus and this can be difficult if you have mobility issues. I will seek to install seats at all bus stops.

5. Finally I know that some of our side roads are dangerous, with drivers going up to 40?mph with no deterrent. This could lead to someone getting hurt or killed. I have heard feedback on this. Unlike current Councilor Bill Boulter I am determined to press the Council to introduce traffic calming on these routes to ensure their safe for all to use..

Me and my team will be leafleting you soon. If we haven't already done so.

Also. I'm planning a meet and greet on the 20th April at Blaby Road park 12-2pn or Fairfield park on April 23rd 5-7pm come along ask me any questions.

Alternatively email questions to [email protected] I will aim to respond within 24 hours

Thank you

Kind regards

James bayliss

Green Party candidate for South and West Wigston

My 5 Policy's that set me apart each day I'll explain a key policy for my local residents here in South & West Wigston.

Protect local residents from cuts.

Working hard with local groups, council's and charites I want to get the best deal for our residents, as a member of Scope and a disabled person I am aware how anioud many people feel at the moment following Liz Kendall's announcement. I want to ensure that people can keep the lights on and food on their tables. Being elderly or disabled is challenging enough without the rug being taken from under you, so it's time to make the government listen and create a system that works for you
