Basket Swing Upgrade

On Tuesday 21st July an engineer will be replacing the seat on the basket swing in Micklefield recreation ground with a brand new one. The work will be undertaken in the morning and the swing should hopefully be ready for use again in the afternoon.

Christmas Lights Switch-on Ceremony 2026

We are pleased to confirm that on Friday 20th November, the Parish Council will be holding a switching on ceremony at Churchville House.

The event will start at approximately 5pm and last until 7:30 pm.
There will be some entertainment, food and drink stalls and a Santa's Grotto available at the event

We will update the final details closer to the date and look forward to seeing everyone at the event

Parish Council Grant awarded for Church Yard Maintenance

The Parish Council is pleased to confirm that, for the 3rd year in a row a grant has been awarded to help towards the maintenance of the church yard.

This is an accessible open space open to all members of the public.

The grass-cutting around graves, memorials, and paths will be paid for with money from the grant

The work being carried out over the coming months will also help maintain the habitat for the wildlife and variety of plants that exist on the grounds.

A reminder that the Neighbourhood Plan Group drop-in events are on Thursday, 26th, and Monday, 30th March. Each of our 8 theme groups have put questions together and would like your feedback on for the Neighbourhood Plan questionnaire coming later this year.

We are also looking for your suggestions on what you feel is important for the village going forward. We are looking forward to seeing everyone with the events running from 4pm until 8pm

CHURCH LANE TEMPORARY CLOSURE

Please see the information supplied below by Our Ward Councillors this morning regarding emergency repairs to Church Lane over the next 2-3 days.

This will impact on bus routes and possibly cause further delays on the roads in the village during rush hour, which are already affected by the Ridge Road bridge closure.

URGENT CHURCH LANE CLOSURE 🚨 09:00 TODAY
Following residents complaints and our pushing for repairs to the terrible state of Church Lane in Micklefield we have just received the following message from highways:
“The Team have accessed Church Lane after we have received several defect reports along the length from Ridge Road to Micklefield Village.
Unfortunately, we are unable to carryout repairs on a make safe basis due to the narrow nature of the road and speed of vehicles using the road. We have taken the steps to apply for an emergency road closure for 0900 today to carry out permanent patching along this length rather than just make safe. The road closure will only be in operation whilst we are working, and consultation has taken place with bus operators, and they are re-routing busses where possible. The works should take 2-3 days to complete.
I appreciate this not ideal with the closure on Ridge Road for the Trans Pennine Upgrade, and we will keep disruption to a minimum but with the increase in traffic volumes on Church Lane it was felt we needed to carry out repair works.

We fully appreciate the inconvenience this will cause but have heard loud and clear from local people the need for this work to be done urgently and properly

Bridge Closure Reminder

A656 Ridge Road Bridge To be closed from 2nd March until 4th December 2026.

As part of Network Rails Project to Electrify the Transpenine Route, the Bridge on the Ridge Road near the Makins Farm entrance is to be demolished and replaced.

The Road bridge will be closed from Monday 2nd March until Friday 4th December. Access to Peckfield Industrial Park and Caird Waste Disposal Site will still be available on the South side of the bridge and Makins farm from the North side. All public paths/bridleways through Makins south side next to the railway line will remain closed.

No doubt this will cause some disruption going forward when the road is fully closed next week.

We have had discussions with Ward Councillor Miller, who has held meetings with LCC Highways and Network Rail as this will inevitably bring higher volumes of traffic through the village.

Diversion signage had been agreed and positioned at all the local junctions surrounding the village, including a weight restriction limit. GPS/ Sat Nav companies have also been informed and advised to divert drivers away from Micklefield.

This will hopefully reduce some of the traffic and stop HGV vehicles from coming through.

There is a Network Rail meeting at The Old Firestation (Youth and Adult Centre) in Mickelfield on 26th February between 4pm and 7pm explaining the diversions and reasons why the bridge is being demolished and replaced.
