RAF Langham

RAF Langham RAF Langham was a Royal Air Force base operational from 1940 - 1958 Langham was finally closed in the late 1950s, being auctioned off in October 1958.

RAF Langham first opened in 1940 with grass runways, as a satelite airfield of RAF Bircham Newton. Langham became an independant RAF base in 1943 and underwent redevelopment, re-opening again in early 1944. After the second world war, RAF Langham was put into Care and Maintenance, but brought back to life once again for the preperations of the Korean war, Langham being an emergency landing strip f

or nearby RAF Sculthorpe, which was occupied by the US Air Force at the time. Local turkey farmers, Bernard Matthews, then took over the site and erected many large sheds on the runways, most of which remain today.
