FAQ Monday
Can a landlord enter your home without notice?
Many tenants are unsure about what landlords can and cannot do when it comes to entering a rented property.
In most situations, notice should normally be given unless there is an emergency.
We’ve created a simple guide explaining:
• when access may be needed
• what counts as an emergency
• why communication matters

Some problems in rented homes should be reported quickly.
Leaks, mould, electrical issues or broken locks can become bigger problems if ignored.
You should usually report:
• leaks or water damage
• no heating or hot water
• electrical problems
• mould or damp
• broken locks or security concerns
Early communication can help prevent repairs becoming more serious.
We’ve created a simple guide explaining what tenants should report and why early action matters.

Power cut at home? Here’s what to check first
We often speak to tenants who are worried when the electricity goes off, but in many cases the issue can be checked quickly.
Starting with a few simple steps can save time and avoid unnecessary stress.
Try this first:
• Check if neighbours or street lights still have power
• Check your fuse box for a tripped switch
• If you use a Pay As You Go meter, check your credit
• Call 105 to see if it’s a local power cut
While you wait:
• Use torches where possible
• Keep fridge and freezer doors closed
• Avoid unsafe heating indoors
If you’re not sure what to do, speaking to your landlord early can help avoid delays.
If the situation becomes difficult to manage, FPRS can offer practical guidance.
