The Kingston Downland Race, which has been running every year since 1977 (with a couple of notable exceptions) has been taken over by Andy Wheeler after years of sterling service by Jeannie Lawrence. This year's edition is on September 10th, starting and finishing, as ever, on St Pancras Green. Register at midday at the Community Pavilion, race begins 1pm. Open to residents/former residents of Kingston and surrounding villages. Love that poster!

Wonderful QPJ scenes on the top of Kingston Hill yesterday: big thanks to Terry, Shelaine and the rest of the team for organising a spectacular - and safe - night of fire, which will live on in the memory. Today's celebrations continue with the relay race at 3pm from the Pavilion round the Avenue and up Lockitt Way (four times) followed by BBQ and other activities on St Pancras Green. Gorgeous weather for it

There are a couple of interesting Kingston-related pictures from 1949 on the just-released Historic England aerial photo site. Warning: start browsing, and you may be gone some time!

Historic England holds an extensive range of publications and historic collections in its public archive covering the historic environment.

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Mathew Clayton, who has just joined Kingston Parish Council, meaning that we have a ‘full house’ of seven councillors (for the time being, at least, a new vacancy opens in May). Mathew was co-opted on January 12th, and subsequently attended the first Parish Council meeting of the year, in the Pavilion (which will surely go down in memory as ‘the masked meeting’). A publisher and events organiser, Mathew has lived in the village for eight years, and his two children, now both at Priory, went to Kingston & Iford School. He can be contacted via e-mail at [email protected].
