Kingston Orchard Project

Kingston Orchard Project Kingston Orchard Project is an agroforestry initiative that involves communities in growing food using a range of traditional and experimental techniques.

We raise a variety of perennial vegetables and herbs from seed and through propagation. Fruits, berries and nuts are developed on trees and bushes using seedlings, cuttings and grafting. We cultivate edible fungi using spawn and tree root inoculation. We follow the latest research in sustainable food production in all its aspects including the context of a changing climate. We emphasise the benefi

ts of an innate diet, together with physical exercise in a natural setting, for the overall health and well-being of people who spend much of their time in an urban environment. We hold regular working sessions in the orchard on Sundays 2 - 4pm (invitation only) and hold Open Days twice a year. We organise practical demonstrations and trainings for specific interest groups.

Job for the weekend: Sow broad beans

Broad beans are delicious and can be sown now for a crop in June. Plant individually in small pots and keep somewhere cool under cover. Unlike most seeds, they germinate better at low temperatures :)

Wonderful afternoon at the orchard yesterday. Great sunny day and lots of bird visitors.

We are propagating fig trees this winter, sowing alpine strawberries, rosemary and thyme. The sale of these plants should generate some income for us.

Someone has broken into our polytunnel since last Sunday. Shame.

If you fancy a few hours of sunshine tomorrow afternoon, please join us at the orchard. Leaves clearing, a little bonfire, some replanting and hardwood cuttings.

another fantastic Sunday afternoon. We have been pruning the tops of trees today and burning the twigs. A lot of clearing still needed, though it is much easier now when the weeds have died down. We need some digging on the plot. Definitely.

wonderful afternoon in the orchard today. I harvested the rest of mulberries and pruned most of our trees. Sadly, our fox in residence did not show up to keep me company.
