Yesterday, Kingston came together to celebrate and support our ESEA community! ❤️

Organised by KBCE and hosted by our local Councillor, Callum Morrissey, the ESEA Culture Festival brought our town centre to life with some of the very best our community has to offer, culture, food, music, performances and, most importantly, people coming together.

A fantastic celebration of the diversity that makes Kingston so special.

We look forward to many more great community events in Kingston! 🇬🇧🌏

🌳 Canbury Gardens has been awarded a green flag! This was a combined effort between community groups, volunteers and the council.

Since ground was broken in January 2026, there has been rapid progress in the construction of 45 wheelchair-accessible homes for older adults and people with learning disabilities. Completion is less than a year away and Kingston-upon-Thames’s Liberal Democrat-controlled council takes great pride in this £13.7m flagship project, which will provide genuinely affordable housing and associated support services for those with additional needs.

Old Malden’s network of life-saving equipment has reached another milestone. A new defibrillator and bleed control kit went in on Landseer Road in June 2026, extending coverage across a large part of the Painters Estate.

A 12th unit is now ready to go in near the upcoming zebra crossing on South Lane, part of the Old Malden walk-to-school scheme. It’ll support all commuters as well as the 1,700 pupils who use our three ward schools throughout the year.

With secure 24/7 access, this unit will make Old Malden the leader in Greater London for AED and bleed control kit coverage.

Further training with .lives.now is planned for September and October, free of charge, with the aim of reaching over 300 residents in life-saving CPR and AED skills (230 have already been trained over the last four years).
Alongside this, a more intensive bleed control and major trauma training session will also be offered. Cllr Massimi is hoping to invite not just residents but cyclists and motorcyclists too, who are especially exposed to major trauma and need to know how to use tourniquets, army bandages and other trauma kit.

All these units, along with their maintenance, registration and tracking, are funded through his Cllr grant.

Every unit installed, every kit fitted and every resident trained brings us closer to a stronger, safer and more resilient Old Malden.

🔶 Preparing for floods in a drought?! 💦

Yes we know its not most people’s first thought but our Councillors Kim Bailey, Andy Sillett, Brian Austen, Lesley Heap and Cllr Mark Durrant Frsa donned some high-vis and went to see a project in New Malden.

The thing is, New Malden is at risk of flooding, so we’re using an innovative material, Hydrorock, to soak up and store water beneath the when the Thames Water 💧 pipes get overloaded.

Heatwave update

Some of our local libraries will be closing early on Wednesday and Thursday due to the heat.

• Wednesday, 12th August: Hook & Chessington and Tolworth branches will close at 12 PM. All afternoon activities are suspended.

• Thursday, 13th August: Hook, Tolworth, Surbiton, New Malden, and Old Malden branches will close at 12 PM. All library activities at these locations will be suspended from 12 PM.

• Continued Access: Tudor Drive and Kingston branches will remain open for their normal operating hours, as these sites have been prioritised for cooling and ventilation support.

✅ They will still be open in the mornings.
