Southcoates litter pick in action! 🌿🗑️

People living locally had raised concerns about the amount of rubbish on the green space at Ryehill Grove, so we decided to get on and clean it up!

A big thank you to everyone who gave up their time to help. These bags show just how much was collected, and what a difference a bit of community effort can make. Thank you to all involved 💚

Keeping Southcoates clean and cared for matters - leave a comment with where you would like us to do next time 👇🏻

Yesterday we joined the Parking Enforcement team out in the pouring rain to discuss a number of parking issues across the ward.

Parking continues to be one of the biggest issues residents raise with us, and it was important to see concerns first-hand and ensure problem areas are being monitored.

Thank you to the enforcement officers for taking the time to meet with us despite the weather. If you have concerns about parking in your area, please do get in touch.

It was great to be at the Alderman Cogan Summer Fair today. It was wonderful to see so many families, staff and pupils enjoying the event and supporting the school community.

A big thank you to everyone who helped organise such a fantastic afternoon!

Residents and Alderman Cogan's Church of England Primary Academy have contacted me about this. We are on it! However, the Council do not have 'bank cover' and will not move a Crossing Patrol officer from another location because of risks outside the other schools.

We know how important this is to parents and carers - our kids safety matters!

Residents have contacted me with real concern with the School Crossing Patrol Officer on Whitworth Street currently absent on long-term sick leave.

I’ve now had communication from officers stating that there is no replacement available at present and they don’t have any reserves to cover the vacancy.

Officers have also School Crossing Patrol Officer will not return until September. I’d like to send my best wishes & I hope she has a speedy recovery.

That position is deeply worrying for parents, children and the wider community who rely on this crossing every single day to get to and from school safely.

I have tabled a question at Full Council asking the Portfolio Holder to set out clearly what contingency arrangements are in place when a crossing patrol is unavailable for a long period, and what immediate steps are being taken to protect road safety outside our schools.

If the Council refuses to take further action, I will be launching a petition to ensure residents’ and parents’ voices are properly heard and to push for the crossing patrol to be reinstated.

Children’s safety must always come first.

Brunch at Bailey's Café certainly set us up for the day. Just wondering if I could justify a weekly drop-in?! 😉

More seriously, it's always great to support local businesses. They play a huge role in our community, providing great services, local jobs, and a friendly face if you're feeling a bit fed-up.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on what more the Council can do to help local businesses thrive and continue providing brilliant local services. Let me know in the comments. 👇

Lovely visit to Alderman & Cogan School today to meet two of the brilliant winners of the “Slow Down” competition.

The children have been thinking about how we make sure drivers slow down near the school so children and families can cross safely.

Their posters were fantastic - thoughtful and with a very clear message for drivers: slow down and keep children safe.

A big well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to the school for helping young people have their say on road safety in their own community. 👏

Update on the Estcourt Street property that residents reported on Monday:
The Council and Police have updated us and Police Action is being taken against at least one tenant. We are aware the problems have been ongoing and people living nearby are the ones who suffer.

We will try to get the glass cleared ASAP as it's hazardous for everyone, especially children, pets and drivers if it ends up on the road 🤨

Please report any further issues to 101 or via us to the Council who can contact the landlord.

Congratulations to the Tigers, amazing for all the fans & Hull! 🎉🧡

Update on the Travellers in East Park: the Council served a Notice to Leave yesterday and they went last night. Any waste will be cleared today.

We warned the Lib Dems this could happen. I will be writing to demand extra security measures. They also need to provide the Travellers temporary site that was signed off over two years ago to prevent this happening around the city.

Karl Turner MP has issued a statement calling on Keir Starmer to resign. This is absolutely the right thing to do. People voted the Labour Party into government in good faith, with belief their lives would get better. The government took that trust & threw it away - Keir Starmer and his mates have been a disaster for this country. Now he must do the right thing and go quickly.
