A positive meeting on Thursday night at Jarrow & Boldon CAF, where representatives from Stanley’s nursery’s were heard. Councillors from Bede, Fellgate, Hedworth & Calf Close, Primrose and Boldon worked together for the good of all ward residents and community groups. While not all councillors are dealing with the Stanley’s situation and it was acknowledged they did not expect us to have the answers, we heard their questions which was gladly received.

💙 TONIGHT, WE WERE HEARD.

A genuine thank you to the members of Jarrow & Boldon CAF tonight, particularly Vice Chair Cllr Rice, who chaired the meeting and offered us a platform

Not every councillor may be able to give us answers yet — but tonight proved they can still listen.

❕Some of our questions were heard
❕They were minuted and acknowledged
❕Councillors agreed to take them forward and invited further questions by email
❕They voted for a separate meeting specifically about Stanley’s

For the first time at a CAF we attended, the pre-prepared statement was put aside and the advice from Legal and Governance was considered.

That allowed us to do what we’ve asked for all along: participate, ask questions and be heard.

Save Our Stanley’s remains apolitical. We want engagement from ALL councillors, which is why we asked for our questions — and the proposed Stanley’s meeting — to be opened up to councillors across the borough.

Now our ask is simple:

👉 Please make sure that Stanley’s meeting happens BEFORE the Cabinet vote on 23rd September.

Before decisions are made, councillors deserve to be fully informed — and families deserve a voice.

Thank you for listening. This is all we have been asking for. 💙

Cllr Alan Rice
Cllr Chris Wears - Bede ward STC, Reform UK
Cllr Simon Oliver - Independent - Boldon
Cllr Geraldine Kilgour Fellgate, Hedworth & Calf Close Labour
Cllr Adam Smith

Thank you to the residents who turned up to our ward surgery tonight. It was great to see a bigger turn out and being able to discuss issues affecting the residents of Bede.

We are engaging with them to raise enquiries they have and actively working on different issues which are affecting people across the ward.

Tonight’s meeting and yesterday’s Jarrow & Boldon CAF have been a great opportunity to listen to the residents and give us good feedback to improve how we engage with people.

There is going to be a change in the name of this group to make it easier for people to search for, so we can build on our following and have 1 group, which all bede reform councillors will have access, to manage and keep upto date with everything together. We hope this helps residents to engage with us.

We will be looking to organise a regular monthly meeting, which hopefully can alternate between Bilton hall & Perth green to accommodate residents from different areas of the ward. More details will follow once we get dates & times arranged.

Help us by sharing our group with relatives and friends who might want to be kept updated or
Share their views and issues.

Great news to see from Northumbria police today, tackling these illegal bikes. Even better to see it happening within our ward. Whether this was removing a nuisance bike from our area, or just setting a president for anyone who thinks about riding an illegal bike and think they will get away with it, take a look at this video, this is what will happen! Is it really worth the risk?

ℹ️ Enquiry update ℹ️

I’ve received a couple of enquiries which related to the window replacement scheme, particularly on Low simonside.

Based on the most recent stock condition data, properties across the low simonside estate are not currently scheduled for window replacement within the current investment programme. However, this position will continue to be reviewed as further survey information is collected and investment priorities are updated.

The council inspects internal and external components to check wear and tear, plan future maintenance, and ensure homes meet the Decent Homes Standard. Properties are surveyed on a rolling 5-year cyclical program where Surveyors look at structural elements, roofs, windows, doors, heating systems, and electrics, alongside health and safety and energy efficiency ratings.

If residents have any specific concerns regarding the condition of their windows or require repairs, we would encourage them to report these through the usual reporting channels.

I’m pleased to report a positive update to the unplanned closure of the post office on Edinburgh road, scotch estate. Bede lost its sole post office branch when the Morrisons store closed last week on 16th August. Below is some welcomed information I received today.

We remain committed to restoring Post Office services in the Edinburgh Road area and are pleased to confirm that we currently have an interested applicant. While plans are still being finalised, we will provide an update to you, other local representatives as soon as further information becomes available and will share this information with our customers by displaying posters within the community.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Yours sincerely
