I’ve received a couple of enquiries which related to the window replacement scheme, particularly on Low simonside.

Based on the most recent stock condition data, properties across the low simonside estate are not currently scheduled for window replacement within the current investment programme. However, this position will continue to be reviewed as further survey information is collected and investment priorities are updated.

The council inspects internal and external components to check wear and tear, plan future maintenance, and ensure homes meet the Decent Homes Standard. Properties are surveyed on a rolling 5-year cyclical program where Surveyors look at structural elements, roofs, windows, doors, heating systems, and electrics, alongside health and safety and energy efficiency ratings.

If residents have any specific concerns regarding the condition of their windows or require repairs, we would encourage them to report these through the usual reporting channels.

I’m pleased to report a positive update to the unplanned closure of the post office on Edinburgh road, scotch estate. Bede lost its sole post office branch when the Morrisons store closed last week on 16th August. Below is some welcomed information I received today.

We remain committed to restoring Post Office services in the Edinburgh Road area and are pleased to confirm that we currently have an interested applicant. While plans are still being finalised, we will provide an update to you, other local representatives as soon as further information becomes available and will share this information with our customers by displaying posters within the community.

🚭 Have your say on plans to regulate to***co, va**ng and ni****ne products

The Department of Health and Social Care has launched a UK-wide consultation on proposals to regulate the packaging, appearance and retail display of to***co, va**ng and ni****ne products.

The proposals aim to reduce the appeal and accessibility of these products, particularly for children and young people, while ensuring vapes remain a viable option for adults looking to quit smoking. The consultation forms part of the implementation of the To***co and Vapes Act 2026.

The consultation is open until 11.59pm on 2 October 2026.

I’m pleased to report that the travellers who cut down a fence to gain entry to some grassed area on Bede industrial estate have now moved on.

Once reports of the travellers who set up several caravans on the estate got back to us, Cllr Michael Oughton made enquiries and worked with the council which resulted in a quick removal of all people and vehicles.

Fencing which was removed has today been reinstated.

There has been reports of people knocking on doors in the ward recently trying to sell things. While there is no evidence this was linked to these travellers, it was quite coincidental that it occurred at the same time they were here. Hopefully this issue has been dealt with now but if anyone has anymore calls to report, please do so and let us know.

Thanks to all involved from reporting this issue, to the work carried out to remove them.

New barriers have now arrived and been installed at lindisfarne roundabout. The area is now looking much better at least as well as safer. I urge drivers to slow down and take care to avoid accidents, disruption and damage.

Temporary Prohibition of Driving - scotch estate.

To enable ESH Living, to install new drainage and manhole, it will be necessary to introduce a Temporary Prohibition of Driving on the following roads:-

1.Inverness Road from its junction with Perth Avenue, in a southerly direction, for a distance of 70 metres.

The works will commence on 18th August 2026 and are expected to take 13 days to complete. The nature of the works will not allow access for vehicles. Signs warning motorists will be erected at strategic locations prior to the works commencing.
