In Memory of Cllr Keith Stevens
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Cllr Keith Stevens, Chairman of the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), following a brief and serious illness.

Cllr Stevens was a cherished and highly respected figure in the parish and town council sector. Since his election as NALC Chairman in 2021, he was a tireless advocate for grassroots democracy, passionately championing the essential role of local councils in shaping vibrant, resilient communities across England.

Beyond his national leadership, Keith served as Chairman of Wartling Parish Council, the East Sussex Association of Local Councils and East Sussex Community Voice. His dedication extended to professional development and governance, where he consistently promoted high standards and training for clerks and councillors alike.

Keith’s tenure at NALC was marked by significant achievements:
• Strengthening the voice of local councils in national policy discussions and parliamentary affairs
• Championing the Local Council Award Scheme to promote excellence and transparency
• Supporting the renewal of Cyber Essentials certification, enhancing digital resilience across the sector
• Publishing open letters and strategic updates that shaped NALC’s direction and inspired member councils

Known for his warmth, humility and inclusive leadership, Keith earned the admiration of colleagues nationwide. He believed deeply in the power of community-level governance to improve lives and his legacy will continue to guide and inspire.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Keith’s family, friends, colleagues and all those whose lives he touched. His impact on local democracy and public service will not be forgotten. RIP
