Huntingdon volunteer police cadets are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of your cadets. At just 15, taken far too soon, our thoughts are with their family, friends, and everyone in your unit during this incredibly difficult time.

From all of us at our cadet unit, we are sending our heartfelt condolences and strength to you all ๐Ÿ’™GMP Volunteer Police Cadets

Great to be back for our first cadet parade night after the Easter break!

We were thrilled to welcome 8 new cadets to the unit this week ๐Ÿ‘ It was a fantastic evening spent getting to know each other and introducing our unit rules.

Cadets also had the opportunity to look around a traffic vehicle ๐Ÿš“ and meet PD Ghost and his handler โ€“ which was definitely a highlight! ๐Ÿพ

A brilliant start to the term โ€“ weโ€™re excited for whatโ€™s ahead!

Tonight we said a proud (and slightly emotional!) farewell to three of our amazing cadets who have officially aged out of our unit. ๐Ÿ’™

Cadets Jasper, Lewis and Beth have each given so much to the unit during their time with us, and itโ€™s been a privilege to watch them grow in confidence, skills and ambition.

This evening, Jasper, Lewis and Beth were presented with certificates signed by Chief Constable Simon Megicks, and handed to them by D/Supt Quigley, who also spoke about his own career journey and the many opportunities open to them in policing and beyond.

As they step into their next chapter, we know they will carry forward the values, teamwork and resilience theyโ€™ve shown as cadets.

Once a cadet, always part of the cadet family. ๐Ÿ‘
We are incredibly proud of you all and canโ€™t wait to see what you achieve next. ๐Ÿ’ซ

๐Ÿš” Volunteer Police Cadets โ€“ Practical Session ๐Ÿš”

Tonight our fantastic Volunteer Police Cadets took part in a hands-on input around drink and drug driving.

Cadets learned about:
๐Ÿ”น The law surrounding drink and drug driving
๐Ÿ”น How alcohol and drugs impair reaction time and judgement
๐Ÿ”น The dangers and real-life consequences of getting behind the wheel unfit to drive
๐Ÿ”น How officers use a roadside breathalyser

They were able to see and use the breathalyser equipment (under supervision), gaining a practical understanding of how checks are carried out and why they are such an important tool in keeping our roads safe.

Sessions like this help our cadets understand not just the legislation, but the real impact poor decisions can have on individuals, families and communities.

Well done to all our cadets for their engagement, maturity and thoughtful discussions ๐Ÿ‘

๐ŸŒ International Womenโ€™s Day 2026 ๐Ÿ’™

Today we celebrate the strength, courage and achievements of women and girls everywhere โ€” including the incredible young women in our Police Cadet unit and the inspiring female officers and leaders who guide them.

Youโ€™ll see lots of posts today about being strong and powerful.
And you are.

But if you donโ€™t feel strong right now โ€” thatโ€™s okay too.

Maybe you feel uncertain, frustrated, vulnerable, or unheard. Those feelings are real. They matter.

International Womenโ€™s Day isnโ€™t just about celebrating success โ€” itโ€™s about recognising journeys, challenges, resilience and growth.

To our female cadets:
You are leaders in the making.
You are role models.
You are shaping the future of policing and our communities.

And to all the important women supporting our cadets โ€” mums, carers, officers, volunteers and staff โ€” thank you for the example you set every single day.

Letโ€™s continue to build confidence, create opportunities and ensure every voice is heard.

On Monday evening, 1 of our brilliant cadets and 2 of our leaders were honoured to attend the Cambs Association of Muslim Police (AMP) Iftar event at Police HQ.

Our very own Cadet Charlie did us proud, helping welcome and guide external guests before joining everyone to break the fast and enjoy the Iftar meal.

It was a truly special evening hosted by the Cambridgeshire Constabulary Association of Muslim Police team, bringing together community leaders and faith leaders in solidarity with Muslim officers and staff. Officers and staff from across the force fasted alongside their Muslim colleagues, and together we broke bread, shared food and reflected on the experience.

Our Chief Constable, Simon Megicks, paid tribute to AMP founder Rizwan Rehmutullah, who is leaving the organisation after 24 years of dedicated service. He was presented with a plaque and gifts in recognition of his commitment to both colleagues and the wider community.

Chief Constable Simon Megicks and Deputy Chief Constable Christopher Balmer also fasted for the first time this Ramadan and shared their reflections from the day.

A huge thank you to our EDI team for their support in making the event possible.

We are proud that our cadets can experience and be part of such important community moments.

We have more in common than what divides us. Stronger together. ๐Ÿ’™

Tonight our Police Cadets were given a real insight into what happens inside the Custody Unit ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿš”

They had the opportunity to learn first-hand the booking-in process, learn about detainee care, and even sample the custody food (reviews were mixed! ๐Ÿ˜…).

One of the most important parts of the session was practising how to remove detainee clothing discreetly and respectfully when itโ€™s necessary to do soโ€“ ensuring dignity is always maintained. Professionalism, safeguarding and respect sit at the heart of everything we do, and it was fantastic for our cadets to experience that learning in a practical way.

A brilliant, hands-on session that gave them a deeper understanding of the realities of policing. ๐Ÿ‘
