To join these sessions you must be aged 18+, unemployed and not in education or training. These include those who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), those who are care-experienced and have been in involved in the Youth Justice System.

Watch a video of Swathi, Hounslow resident who secured her first job through volunteering

She joined the Council’s Supporting Women into Work pilot programme, delivered by Work Hounslow with support from the Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team

With no previous work experience, she gained hands-on skills by volunteering at Healthy in Your Own Skin (HIYOS), an NHS GP clinic. She said she enjoyed the experience and learned new skills, which helped her secure a job at the clinic. She also encourages other residents to volunteer as a pathway into employment.

Alongside volunteering, Swathi accessed Work Hounslow's careers advice and employment support, including online training and work experience
