✈️ Recently, the European Air Group hosted the Aviation Medicine Coordination Board, bringing together representatives from across all EAG nations for two days of collaboration and discussion.

Day One was kindly hosted by the French Embassy in London 🇫🇷, with Day Two taking place at EAG Headquarters at RAF High Wycombe 🇬🇧. Attendees also had the opportunity to visit Windsor Castle 👑 during their time in the UK.

The Coordination Board plays a key role in planning the six-week Advanced Aviation Medicine Course, delivered collaboratively across participating nations. This year marks the course’s 20th iteration 🎉 celebrating two decades of multinational cooperation and shared expertise in aviation medicine.

With all nations represented, discussions focused on coordinating this year’s course and current aviation medicine topics, including the operational considerations associated with pilots remaining in flying roles later into their careers.

We now look ahead to this year’s graduation ceremony in Paris 🇫🇷.

VOLCANEX FP C2 CPX 26 – Week 1 Complete 🛡️

Last week marked the successful start of the European Air Group’s VOLCANEX FP C2 CPX 26, hosted at the German Army Combat Simulation Centre in Wildflecken.

The first week of this three-week multinational training serial brought together Force Protection personnel from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and Italy 🇮🇹, working side-by-side in a challenging synthetic operational environment powered by VBS4 simulation technology.

VOLCANEX continues to provide a unique opportunity to introduce, test and refine EAG Force Protection Command & Control procedures in a realistic multinational setting. Throughout the week, participants trained in Combined Air FP Command Post functions, responsibilities, and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs), strengthening interoperability and reinforcing a common understanding of NATO-aligned standards 🤝.

The exercise scenario evolved through increasing threat levels, enabling personnel to develop confidence in decision-making, coordination and tactical responses within a multinational Air FP construct. The training also allowed near real-world testing of the EAG FP C2 Handbook, ensuring lessons identified can continue to enhance future interoperability across EAG nations.

A huge thank you to all personnel involved in delivering and participating in Week 1 👏. Your professionalism, collaboration and commitment have set the conditions for a successful exercise series.

We now look ahead to Week 2, where participants from Belgium 🇧🇪, Spain 🇪🇸 and the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 will join the exercise and continue building multinational integration and operational cohesion across the EAG community.

EAG Connectivity Forum 2026 | Strengthening interoperability through TDL ✈️

Last month, representatives from EAG nations came together at RAF High Wycombe, UK, for the latest Connectivity Forum.

The forum provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss developments in Tactical Data Links (TDL). A key theme throughout was the continued importance of training harmonisation across nations, alongside the introduction of new areas for future collaboration.

Following the successful evaluation of the VOLCANEX TDL 25 exercise, the forum also hosted the Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for VOLCANEX TDL 26, with NATO Allied Air Command in attendance. The next iteration of the exercise is scheduled for November 2026 at Lyon Air Force Base in France.

Looking ahead, the EAG will continue to build on this work, with a dedicated TDL meeting planned after the summer and the next Connectivity Forum already on the horizon for 2027.

🔵 VOLCANEX CHIP 2026 | Strengthening interoperability in Germany

This week, the European Air Group brought together multinational air and rotary-wing expertise at Holzdorf Air Base, Germany, for VOLCANEX CHIP 2026, a key Cargo Helicopter Interoperability Project designed to sharpen cooperation, coordination and operational readiness.

Despite challenging weather conditions, two Dutch CHINOOK helicopters, alongside crews and technicians from Gilze-Rijen Air Base, deployed to take part in a demanding week of training and collaboration. Their arrival set the tone for an exercise focused on resilience, professionalism and multinational teamwork.

Across five days, participants exchanged expertise, refined Command and Information Procedures, and strengthened the interoperability that underpins effective combined air operations.

The week concluded with a complex four-ship mission, bringing multinational crews together in a coordinated flying activity. This was a significant milestone as the first European Air Group exercise in 11 years to reintroduce full flight planning and live mission ex*****on.

VOLCANEX CHIP 2026 demonstrates the EAG’s ability to turn planning, coordination and cooperation into real operational effect, while directly supporting preparation for VOLCANEX ACE 27.

👏 Congratulations to all crews, planners and organisers whose commitment and professionalism made this milestone possible.

🇫🇷 Sharing French Culture at the EAG

Last week, the European Air Group team and wider family came together for one of our cultural lunches, this time with France proudly taking the lead as hosts. 🇫🇷

Our French colleagues delivered an outstanding afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship, beginning with escargot 🐌 to start before moving into the main event, codenamed Operation Duck Fat. The mission featured a delicious duck salad starter, followed by duck served with perfectly roasted potatoes cooked in duck fat. 🦆

Breaking from the traditional EAG quiz format, our hosts kept everyone on their toes with a series of table puzzles and challenges, bringing out the competitive spirit and plenty of laughter along the way. 🧩🔥

A huge thank you to our French team for such a memorable occasion. Events like these are a fantastic reminder that beyond our daily work, it is shared experiences like this that strengthen friendships, deepen understanding, and help multinational cooperation continue to thrive. 🤝

🇪🇺✈️ Strengthening European Air Power Through Cooperation in Berlin 🇩🇪

The recent European Air Group Working Group meeting in Berlin brought together representatives from across our seven nations to drive forward the practical business of multinational air power cooperation.

At the heart of discussions was VOLCANEX ACE 27: set to be a flagship demonstration of interoperability, integrated within Air Defender 27. The exercise will focus on establishing and operating a multinational dispersed airbase, testing our ability to generate air power together across logistics, maintenance, command and control, and live flying operations in a demanding environment. It represents exactly the kind of real-world output the EAG exists to deliver. 🔥✈️

The Working Group also reviewed progress across a broad portfolio of projects, including:

- Transition of the successful F-35 Interoperability Project into its next phase, handing key outputs to nations and NATO.
- Development of Maintainer Interoperability Training, embedding practical opportunities into major exercises and training serials.
- Progress on synthetic training, airworthiness in wartime, air traffic services, and future capability cooperation.
- Continued focus on ensuring EAG HQ is equipped to support increasingly complex multinational activity.

The Berlin meeting reinforced a clear message: when European nations collaborate early, plan together, and train together, we deliver stronger, more agile and more credible air power.
