Today, on World Physiotherapy Day, we celebrate our incredible physiotherapy teams at LNWH and the vital role they play in helping patients recover, regain independence and improve their quality of life.
Our physiotherapy team are constantly finding innovative and engaging ways to support patients throughout their recovery journey, creating bespoke programmes that make a real difference to both physical and mental wellbeing of our patients.
Let's take a look at one of the fantastic initiatives currently making an impact on Evelyn Ward.
Evelyn Ward has been the proud recipient of the successful implementation of Bay-Based Exercise Classes. You may be wondering, what does this involve?
Launched in June, the Bay-Based Exercise Class has been a huge success, with patients embracing the benefits of exercising together in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Led by our experienced Therapy Technicians, the programme includes a variety of bed and chair-based exercises using equipment such as pilates balls, pilates bricks and resistance bands.
Each exercise is adapted to suit individual abilities, helping patients build strength, improve balance and enhance overall function, while working towards their personal rehabilitation goals.
Beyond the physical benefits, the group setting creates valuable opportunities for social interaction, helping to build confidence, boost morale and promote positive mental wellbeing. The classes have fostered a real sense of community on the ward, making rehabilitation a more enjoyable and motivating experience.
What Our Patients Say:
"Absolutely fantastic and helpful. The class really boosted morale and was a great overall body workout."
"Arms, neck and shoulders get very stiff when you spend a lot of time in bed, this is variety to sitting, to do these exercises in a group is very motivating."
"The physios running the exercise class were energetic and engaging and did a good routine of movements. Very encouraging to the patients."
Feedback from Nursing Leads on Evelyn Ward:
“I had the chance to briefly join one of the classes and it was lovely to see. The patients were smiling, engaged, and clearly enjoying themselves. A real credit to the therapy team for taking the time to put this together.”
“The bay classes are going very well without disrupting the ward routine. It has been very good group activity for our elderly patients.”
Feedback from Orthogeriatric Consultant on Evelyn Ward:
"I love seeing the enthusiasm of the therapists and the opportunity the patients have to engage with the bay and therapists as a whole.
Even if the patients physically don't manage to engage much, the benefit on their mood and general well-being cannot be underestimated."
