At the end of last year, we reopened the council's general enquiries phoneline. In the first 4 months of operation, the council handled over 31,000 calls. We are making the council easier to contact and more accessible to residents.

Since introducing our HMO restrictions earlier this year, our policy is already making a difference. Higher standards and greater scrutiny have meant that Harrow's Conservative Council has blocked many inappropriate HMO applications.

Earlier this year Conservative councillors introduced planning restrictions which required all new Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) applications to apply for planning permission.

As part of our £56 million investment in roads and paths, we are renewing at least 35 footpaths this year. We are making progress but know that many more paths need to be replaced. Our 4-year intensive renewal programme aims to bring out paths up to standard.

Last year we resurfaced 79 roads across Harrow as part of our ongoing £56 million investment in local highways. Conservative councillors are committed to bringing Harrow’s roads up to a good standard.

We are cracking down on anti-social behaviour by installing 20 new cameras, in addition to our existing CCTV network, to help the council monitor problem areas and crime hotspots. We are working hard to keep Harrow clean and safe.

Shanah Tovah to everyone marking Rosh Hashanah.

The new year of 5787 opens the Days of Awe, the period of reflection that runs through to Yom Kippur. It is a time for families to come together, for apples and honey, and for the sound of the shofar calling people to think seriously about the year ahead.

It has been a hard year for the Jewish community in this country. My hope is that this one brings greater peace and greater security, and that every family in Harrow East can mark the festival without having to give a thought to their safety.

Shanah Tovah u'Metukah, a good and sweet new year to you all.
