Our Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Cllr Darren Commons, and our Deputy Leader (responsible for Community Safety & Enforcement) Cllr Paul Hawkaluk have been out with the Enforcement Team, witnessing first-hand how fly-tipping reports are handled from a fly-tipping incident being reported through to its clearance.

They will be reporting back on measures to crack down on this environmental crime, increase enforcement action, deter offenders, and address the significant backlog of fly-tipping reports.

Out campaigning for Rob Kenyon for Makerfield today. The support on the doorstep has been fantastic.

People can see that Rob is the only candidate with both a clear plan and a genuine commitment to represent them. Whether it's protecting women’s spaces, regenerating our towns, or tackling the issues that matter most locally, Rob understands the concerns of residents because he takes the time to listen.

You can tell he genuinely cares about the people of Makerfield and is determined to be a strong voice for them.

What a special day to commemorate D-Day, remembering the courage and sacrifice of the heroes who landed in Normandy 82 years ago.

Halifax was honoured to welcome The Royal Yorkshire Regiment as it exercised the Freedom of the Borough and celebrated its 20th anniversary. There was a fantastic turnout to support the parade, with the Regiment marching through the town, accompanied by the band, followed by a moving service at Halifax Minster. Also taking part in the parade were local cadets from the Army Cadet Force.

We are also delighted to announce that Councillor Colonel Stephen Padgett OBE has been appointed as Calderdale’s Armed Forces Member Champion. Councillor Colonel Padgett OBE enjoyed a distinguished military career spanning several decades in the British Army and served as Commander of British Forces in Afghanistan.

As Armed Forces Member Champion, he will play an important role in strengthening links with serving personnel, veterans, and the wider Armed Forces community across Calderdale.

Lest we forget.

Today we remember the courage and sacrifice of the heroes who landed in Normandy 82 years ago.

Their sacrifice changed the course of history. Lest we forget. 🇬🇧

We don’t often share national posts, but this resonates with so many of us. Without acknowledging the truth and facts, how can we ever hope to prevent a repeat of this tragedy.

🇬🇧We are proud to see our Union Flag is now flying above the Halifax Town Hall.

Thanks to the approval of the Mayor, Cllr Andrew Tagg, we are able to raise the flag pending our plans to change the policy in July.

We will put an end to past administration's flying of foreign flags and symbols of division. We are proud of our great nation and it's history.

Today, Cllr Dan Sutherland, the leader of Calderdale Council has formally urged the national Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs to explicitly include Calderdale in its investigations.

Victims deserve nothing less than the full truth. Calderdale must be part of this process so justice can be delivered, accountability secured, and lessons learned to prevent such appalling crimes from ever being repeated.

Yesterday, the Calderdale Council Cabinet held its first meeting with Council Directors, where we outlined and discussed our key priorities and pledges for our borough.
We pledged to keep you informed, so here are some of the key areas already being addressed:

💷 A full review of council spending is now underway
🚧 Planned roadworks are being reassessed - do they provide significant enough benefit to justify the disruption to businesses and road users
🅿️ Parking charges across the borough are under review
🕳️ Tackling potholes remains a priority, with work beginning on a practical and effective plan
🏬 Economic regeneration is a major focus — we want our towns to thrive for the benefit of residents and local businesses alike.

📣One clear commitment from your Reform UK Council is that contrary to Labour's plans for a maximum council tax rise next year, we will be keeping any rise as low as possible. 📣

We understand people are eager to see change quickly — and so are we. However, delivering meaningful improvements will require a shift in culture and a different way of working.

Under the leadership of Cllr Dan Sutherland and his Cabinet, business is already being conducted differently, and we firmly believe this approach will benefit Calderdale as a whole.
