Beams Foster Care and Family Services Ltd is an Independent Fostering Agency based in Gorleston, Norfolk.

Beams Foster Care and Family Services Ltd was set up in August 2013 by two social work colleagues, Karen Beales and Beryl Sims. Between them Karen and Beryl have over 50 years’ experience in social care all of that being within children and families. Both Karen and Beryl’s desire and vision for setting up Beams Foster Care and Family Services Ltd was to develop and create services that could and w

ould provide children and their families an individual, tailored, quality service. A service provided by professionals who had the skills, capacity and time to work with the children, their families and their foster carers to ensure stability and bring about change. Karen and Beryl have spent a large chunk of their careers working with children who are “looked after” by their Local Authority, in foster care and residential care. Both Karen and Beryl have spent a substantial period of their careers working in Local Authorities. Beams Foster Care and Family Services Ltd has two elements that can work separately from one another or can work jointly together for identified and agreed pieces of work. Beams Foster Care is a service where foster carers, social work staff, other professionals work closely together and all know each other. All the children are known within the agency, therefore, foster carers receive support that is individual and pertinent to them and the children placed with them. We are an agency where foster carers feel valued, well supported, well trained, well supervised and rewarded with an above average financial package. This we believe creates a foster agency where foster carers feel valued children placed achieve positive outcomes.

Children stop listening long before parents stop talking.

Not because they are lazy. Not because they do not care.

Often, it is because they feel criticised, unheard, controlled, compared, judged, or overwhelmed.

When children hear constant correction, shouting, threats, lectures, or dismissive responses, they can learn to switch off. The more disconnected they feel, the less likely they are to listen.

The truth is that children respond best when they feel safe, respected, and understood. Connection comes before cooperation.

A powerful reminder that the words adults use every day can either build trust or slowly break it down.

Every parent, carer, teacher, and professional working with children needs to read this.
