Tragically, another life has been lost in the water in Lincolnshire.

Our thoughts and condolences are with their friends and family at this difficult time.

Itโ€™s a heart breaking reminder of the dangers of our waters here in the UK.

With the warm weather continuing this half term, our plea for everyone is to know your water safety.

Cold water shock can happen in seconds, and even the strongest of swimmers can still get into difficulty. The UKโ€™s waters never get warm enough, even on the hottest of days, to stop this involuntary reaction.

If youโ€™re struggling in the water, remember to FLOAT:
- Tilt your head back, submerging your ears.
- Relax and control your breathing.
- Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat.
- Your legs may sink. Thatโ€™s ok, everyone floats differently.
- Once calm, call for help

If you see someone struggling, avoid entering the water, tell them to FLOAT, call 999, and throw something that they can grab on to.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Smoke rises quickly, filling rooms from the ceiling down and standing up could put you in danger.

Practising your escape helps you react faster.

During a fire:
Stay low to avoid smoke
Check doors before opening
Close doors behind you if possible

๐Ÿข Flats:
Know your evacuation plan
Never use lifts

๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ Houses & HMOs:
Practise your main escape route
Make sure everyone knows what to do

๐Ÿ‘‰ Run a fire drill and aim to get out in under 2 minutes.

Donโ€™t have an escape plan? Get it sorted today.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Going back into a burning building is one of the most dangerous decisions you can make.

Once youโ€™re out, you must stay out.

๐Ÿ“ Choose a safe meeting point:
A distance away from your home
Easy for everyone to find

Once outside:
โ— Stay out
โ— Call 999 and ask for the fire service

Check your alarms and escape regularly:
Are your smoke alarms working?
Does everyone know the plan?
Are your exits clear right now?

๐Ÿ‘‰ Take 2 minutes today to check your safety.

๐Ÿš— KEEP YOUR CAR SAFE & RELIABLE

A well-maintained vehicle is especially important in rural areas where breakdown help may take longer.

โœ” If itโ€™s been a while since your last check over, hereโ€™s our tips:
Check tyre tread and pressure monthly
Test lights before every longer journey
Keep screen wash topped up (important for country roads)
Listen for changes in braking or steering
Donโ€™t ignore warning lights on the dashboard

โ„ Winter tip:
Check battery health and carry an ice scraper.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Family tip:
A 10-minute monthly check together can improve safety and confidence.
