Goring-on-Thames Parish Council Parish Council in Oxfordshire

25/05/2026

We have recently become aware of groups of young people climbing onto the roofs of the Arcade. This behaviour is extremely dangerous and we ask that it stops immediately.
The roofs are not designed for climbing and there is a serious risk of injury from falling onto the concrete below or through into the shops underneath. While many young people who use the Arcade as a place to meet have generally been polite and respectful, climbing onto the roofs is completely unacceptable.
We would ask parents and guardians to please speak with their children about the very real dangers involved. In addition to the safety risks, accessing the roofs is also considered trespassing and incidents may be reported to the police.
As a Parish Council, we are committed to supporting young people in the village and are continuing to work towards creating safe and appropriate spaces for teenagers to spend time socially.
Thank you for your support and understanding.

Thank you to everyone who gave time to help w**d and keep our village looking good. Thanks to Clare, Ilka & the team for adding some fun elements (name the w**d ripper) and organising the wonderful picnic food - a huge thanks to Masooms for the delicious curry 🙏. The effort to keep the village looking clean and tidy continues with councillors giving time to clean & paint the village entrance gate & signs. What a difference it all makes.

It is so disappointing to see the damage to the lovely new Bourdillon playground. The accessible swing has been broken with some force. Could we ask that parents supervise children using the playground at all times. If your child was responsible for the damage, please get in touch with the council. Working together, hopefully we can avoid a repetition of such behaviour.

Please join us in welcoming our newest Councillor, Anna Povey đź‘‹
Anna was co-opted to the Parish Council this week, filling the vacancy created by Cllr Nick Mallen’s move to Deputy Clerk.
As a parent of two young children, Anna brings a valuable perspective on family and community life, along with a strong interest in the long-term future of Goring. She represents a demographic currently under-represented on the council and is passionate about ensuring the voices of parents, working families and women are heard.
Anna is a great listener and keen to engage with residents. As she puts it: “If you want change, you have to be part of it.”
We’re delighted to have her on board and look forward to the contribution she’ll make. A full profile will be available soon on our website.
