Something a little further from home but still somewhat local and proof of the continued degradation of our great history.
Brunel’s SS Great Britain is a phenomenal ship that had an active lifespan of 94 years! From being a transatlantic luxury liner, to being used as an emigrant ship to Australia and a troop ship during the Crimean War, this ship has been massively beneficial for our great nation. It has since been a point of interest in Bristol where it is docked, as a museum and tourist attraction.
However recently, a decision has been made to REMOVE the name of the ship from the dockyard in an effort to ‘represent diversity’. An absolute disgrace.
Is this the nation we have become? That we are so ashamed of our history that we must degrade ourselves into not allowing the use of the term ‘Great Britain’? What a joke! Even the SS part (which stands for Steam Ship) is being misconstrued by some into thinking it means Slave Ship. Great Britain is responsible for the abolishment of slavery which happened over a decade before her maiden voyage.
This is what happens now. We are a nation that is scared of our history because others from outside our nation might get offended. It’s pathetic.
