đźš— Reform UK Gloucestershire's clear stance on the 20mph zones rollout đźš—

Hi everyone,
Please see our official press statement below regarding Gloucestershire County Council's plans for blanket 20mph zones across the county.

Subject: Reform UK Gloucestershire Outlines Position on 20mph Zone Rollout

Reform UK Gloucestershire formally opposes the blanket rollout of 20mph zones across the county. We believe these restrictions should be limited to high-priority areas where safety is paramount, such as the immediate vicinity of schools, universities, and hospitals.

Our group is concerned that these zones may be implemented rapidly without sufficient public consultation. While we are currently engaging with council officers to determine the exact rollout process, we remain unsatisfied with the current level of transparency. Until a clear framework is provided, we cannot effectively scrutinise the plans or provide residents with the accurate information they deserve.

Statement Ends.
We stand for common-sense policies that protect vulnerable road users without unnecessarily penalising drivers on quieter residential roads or main routes. Blanket speed limits risk frustrating local communities and could even have unintended consequences.

What do you think? Should 20mph zones only apply near schools/hospitals, or do you support wider rollout? Drop your thoughts below 👇 – and share this if you agree we need more transparency from the council!

📢 STATEMENT: Cllr Dean Botterill on Today’s Serious Accident at The Shrubberies School

Following the serious collision on Oldends Lane this afternoon, Cllr Dean Botterill (Reform UK) has issued a formal call for immediate safety infrastructure.

The incident, which resulted in a pedestrian being injured, occurred at a location Cllr Botterill has identified as a high-risk zone for months.

🛑 A Documented Warning
For months, Cllr Botterill has been actively lobbying Gloucestershire County Council to install a formal zebra crossing at this exact location. He has been in constant communication with the Highways department, specifically raising the urgent need for improved pedestrian safety for our students and residents.

⚠️ No More Delays
“This is a deeply distressing incident that many of us feared was only a matter of time,” said Cllr Botterill. “The safety of our children and vulnerable road users must be the absolute priority. We cannot continue to wait for accidents to happen before we take common-sense safety measures.”

📋 The Demand to Gloucestershire County Council
Cllr Botterill is calling on the Council to:
End the bureaucratic delays regarding Oldends Lane.
Commit to the immediate installation of a formal crossing.
Prioritize school-zone safety over departmental red tape.
Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian and their family during this difficult time.

🚨 LIB DEM BUDGET EXPOSED — REFORM UK PUTS FORWARD THE ONLY SERIOUS ALTERNATIVE 🚨
Gloucestershire deserves better than a budget built on misallocated funds, failed priorities, and punishing the very people who hold our county together.

While the Liberal Democrats push ahead with plans to raid ring‑fenced Public Health money for 20mph zones, underfund flooding defences, ignore soaring SEND transport costs, and even charge carers to park, Reform UK is taking a stand.

Road traffic incidents only make up a small proportion of total A&E attendances (typically low single-digit percentages)

Today we’ve put forward a fully costed, practical, common
‑sense amendment package that delivers:
âś… ÂŁ5 million in safeguarded funding
✅ A path to multi‑million SEND transport savings
✅ Real flood prevention — dredging, emergency gully clearance and drainage upgrades
âś… Support for local food & drink businesses
✅ Scrapping the Carers’ Parking Charge — because taxing compassion is shameful
âś… Stronger roads & infrastructure
âś… A new Financial Risk Reserve to finally tackle the SEND deficit responsibly

The Lib Dem budget is glossy on the surface, reckless underneath.
Ours is focused and delivers for residents.

Gloucestershire can’t afford more empty promises.
It needs action.
It needs competence.
It needs Reform.
Cllr Vernon Smith & Cllr Piers Camp (Leader & Dept Leader) Approve this Message.

Great time leafletting and canvassing in Upper Rissington for Matt Fincham this weekend.

We had 10 people (including 6 Councillors) out which makes it easy work. We need to get numbers out to win elections.

I hope we win on Thursday 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Good Luck Matt and the team!

🚨 DEMOCRACY DODGING IN CHELTENHAM: THE LIB DEMS ARE RUNNING SCARED 🚨

The Liberal Democrats in Cheltenham have officially requested to CANCEL the May 2026 local elections. Why? They claim it’s about "resource-saving" during council reorganisation—but we know the truth: They are terrified of the ballot box.

With support for Reform surging, the Lib Dems are desperate to cling to their seats and avoid the verdict of the people. Even their own national leader, Sir Ed Davey, previously slammed election delays, stating: "Article 3 of the first protocol of the Human Rights Act spells out in black and white the right to free elections.
Removing elections altogether... is in clear breach of this principle."
It seems the Lib Dems only believe in human rights when it’s convenient for them. In Cheltenham, they’d rather suspend democracy than risk losing power.

Reform stands with YOU. 🇬🇧 We believe in democracy 365 days a year, not just when the establishment thinks they can win. The people of Cheltenham deserve to be heard NOW, not in 2027.

👇 AGREE? Share this post and let Cheltenham Borough Council know that democracy isn’t "inconvenient"—it’s essential!

Farmers First! 🇬🇧🚜

Reform UK stands firmly with our farmers and traditional rural enterprises. We just wrapped up an insightful meeting with producers from across Gloucestershire to discuss the future of our countryside.

Our commitment is simple:

Buy British, Buy Gloucestershire.

Mandate locally sourced meat and dairy in our schools, hospitals, and government buildings.

Let’s get back to basics: quality British farming and local produce.

A Fantastic Day for Grassroots Basketball in Quedgeley!
On Sunday, 14th December 2025, I had the privilege of attending the first-ever game for our local grassroots basketball team, Centurions, at Severn Vale School in Quedgeley.
This was a truly special occasion. The Centurions faced off against a team of American and Canadian students from University Degree Abroad (UDA), and the atmosphere was incredible. It was great to see so many people come together to celebrate sport and community.

As someone who was watching basketball for the first time, I can honestly say it was a fantastic experience. The energy, teamwork, and passion on display were inspiring. This is exactly what grassroots sport is all about — creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved and enjoy themselves.
I’m proud to have authorised a grant to support Centurions so they can continue to grow and thrive in the future. These initiatives strengthen our community and give young people positive pathways.

Looking ahead, I’m delighted to share that a rematch is already being planned for early 2026. I can’t wait to see how the team develops and to support them every step of the way.
If you’d like to get involved, Centurions run inclusive sessions every Sunday from 1–3pm at Severn Vale School. Adults and juniors (13+) of all abilities are welcome. Fees are just £5 for adults and £2 for juniors — making it accessible for everyone.

Heating Update – Bishops Cleeve Primary Academy

This week, shadow cabinet members Cllr Chris Mayo and I (Cllr Leigh Challis) visited the school to see the heating situation for ourselves.

The reality: 20+ year-old boiler system running at only ~50% capacity (One boiler not working), and the other cannot be switched off even in summer → water bills have rocketed by thousands.

Some classrooms have been relying on portable electric fan heaters
one was even on a child’s desk.
The Trust has already spent £71k on emergency repairs and repeatedly bid for government funding – rejected every time.
Emergency loans would have to be repaid over 10 years, which the Trust cannot commit to in case another school suffers a major failure.

Temporary electric heaters have now been installed in the coldest rooms and temperatures are monitored daily.
The school and GL Academies Trust are doing everything they can within a broken funding system, but academies simply do not get the same emergency capital support as council-maintained schools. A new boiler can only be funded by central government.
Temporary measures are helping right now, but we urgently need the DfE to approve funding for a permanent replacement before next winter.

Cllr Mayo and I will keep pressing the Department for Education and our local MP until this is fixed.
Thank you to the headteacher, staff and site team for their openness and hard work keeping the school running.

Parents with concerns → please contact the head or CEO Claire Savory: [email protected]

âś… No Child Should Have to Learn in a Freezing Classroom
As winter sets in, every child deserves a warm and safe environment to learn. That’s why Cllr Leigh Challis, Shadow Cabinet Member for Education & Skills, together with Reform UK, has taken strong action to make sure Bishop’s Cleeve Primary School is prepared for the cold weather.

Here’s what we’ve done so far:
🔹 Raised the Issue Directly – Leigh contacted the school leadership to highlight parents’ concerns about classroom temperatures and the reliability of the current heating system.
🔹 Challenged the Process – We’ve asked why actual temperature readings aren’t being taken and why repairs to the existing system haven’t been carried out while waiting for a full upgrade.
🔹 Offered Practical Support – Reform UK has pledged to personally fund digital thermometers for every classroom and common area, so parents can see the real temperatures their children are learning in.
🔹 Secured a Meeting – Leigh and Cllr Chris Mayo will meet with the school’s CEO on 3rd December to push for immediate solutions and ensure children stay warm during the next cold snap.
🔹 Engaged with Local Media – We’ve reached out to media organisations to make sure the school and community are fully aware of the situation and the steps being taken.
We believe parents deserve transparency and action—not just promises for summer 2026. Reform UK will continue to fight for practical steps that protect our children’s wellbeing this winter.

👉 Do you agree that every classroom should have a thermometer so parents know the actual temperature? Comment below and share your thoughts!
