Welcome to the Friends of Riverside Park, Glenrothes

Friends of Riverside Park is a group of committed volunteers, working towards improving the park for the use of the community. They are involved in planning the future of the park, as well as keeping what we already have in good shape. Our vision is as follows:
“Riverside Park will be a welcoming Greenspace in the heart of Glenrothes. We will p

rotect and develop its diverse landscape for the local community within Glenrothes, for visitors from further afield and for future Generations to enjoy”

We hope that our group, consisting of ordinary members of the community, by influencing decisions about the park, will help ensure that the future of the park is a bright one. We also hope that encouraging more people into the park, by running events and promoting the park, will improve the well being and enjoyment of more of the community.

We put down some bark mulch to finish up our tidy up of the FORP shrub area in the Pond upper car park. It was very encouraging to have people stop by and thank us for the work we are doing. It makes it all worthwhile when we know we are appreciated. 😊😊

Keep an eye open over the next few months for name signs appearing on the bridges in the park. The footbridge over the river Leven closest to the new play park is the first to have the name plaque installed by FORP. We think you can guess from its location why the name is fitting.

Our FORP shrub bed beside our notice board was in need of a spring clean. Two strapping volunteers (Peter and David) got out the gardening tools and set to work. We think they have done a great job. Only some bark mulch still to spread to keep the w**ds in check.

A small team from FORP went up today (Sunday) to do some more care for the three young trees that needed a bit of TLC.
Weeds cleared beneath them and some w**d control and mature bark mulch on top to prevent regrowth of the w**ds.
A bit of repair was needed on the deer fencing as it was clear that some vandalism had been attempted (why ???).
Encouragingly we spotted that one of these tiny trees is forming apples. 🍎😊
Thanks to David, Bob and Peter for their work in the park. 👏👏

FORP would like to thank volunteer Steven Scott Tree Services (mob. 07435140040) who came to the Enchanted Garden in Riverside Park to install some ‘Mythical Creatures’ in the woods to make the space even more magical for children. Steven is local to Glenrothes and was more than willing to give up his time to help. We are happy to recommend him if you need any tree or hedging work done.
The artwork was created by fabulous local artist Donna Forrester Artwork specially for FORP.

Many thanks to everyone who sponsored our walk in aid of Fife Young Carers Charity.

Beverley and David (FORP and Rotary members) managed to finish their section and others went on to complete it
So far the Rotary walkers have raised close to £4500. A fabulous total.

It took a little while to organise getting the winners of our ‘Easter Bunny’ competition to collect their prize. Since all of them had a sibling FORP included a small secondary prize for them in case they felt left out.
Margo, Cara and Ashton worked out the Bunny’s name as THUMPER. Thanks to everyone who entered. Perhaps you will be lucky next time.
