6th Jun 1866 - birth of Sir John Stirling Maxwell of Pollok. 10th Baronet.

In 1899 he commissioned the photographic recording, then publication of "The Sculptured Stones in the Kirkyard of Govan", the photogravure's were made by Messrs. Annan of Glasgow, this book is referred to by the volunteer squad as "The Stirling Maxwell Book"

In 1929-32 Chairman of The Forestry Commission.

In 1931, a founder member of the National Trust for Scotland (who now look after his estate, Pollok Park)

He was also a trustee of The National Galleries of Scotland and a Lieutenant in the Royal Company of Archers.
