Today we’re launching our new Chair’s Chat blog. After each of our Community Council meetings, our Chair Carolyn will share her reflections on what we’re up to and how people can get involved. This first blog covers the pitch at Merrylee Primary, changes at the Couper Institute and Carolyn’s deep and abiding love of local noticeboards. Let us know what you think!

I love community noticeboards. It’s a standing joke in my family that whenever we go somewhere new and spot a noticeboard, usually outside a library or town hall, I will be hopelessly drawn to it. Inevitably I’ll loiter for ages, happily perusing the latest community council minutes, adverts for...

6 weeks ago today we facilitated our first author event at the Couper Institute, with the fantastic best-selling author Gavin Bell imparting his wisdom and tales of becoming a published author and hosting a writing workshop.

Attached is just a selection of some of the feedback we received from the attendees on the day, which was overwhelmingly positive. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the event such a success. We hope you all thoroughly enjoyed it and we are now looking into hosting more author events in the future.

A wee reminder that the next Community Council meeting is this coming Wednesday, 13 May.

The agenda and zoom link for the meeting are available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cisR9HDQngjbkw_4AmNNzbKvS9BzoPx-8iQ5J2bk0Jo/edit?usp=sharing

We'll be discussing our upcoming summer fete, film programme and Doors Open Day events, as well as next steps on protecting the Couper Institute, outcomes of recent funding applications and our application for a Fireworks Control Zone, progress on replacing the pitch at Merrylee Primary and much more.

We'd love to see you there, and as ever, we're keen to hear your ideas, concerns and involvement. The community council is made up of volunteer local residents just like you, and there are always opportunities to get involved.

📣 Micro Talk Title: The Cost of NO Transition.

⭐️ Conn Murnin from Belfast, is a PhD student at the University of Strathclyde, studying Renewable Technology. He is passionate about how green technology and sustainable ways of living can have an amazing impact on the planet, and how it can all start with us! We are often told how much our eco & climate friendly technology costs the local family in bills and fuel, it is not often discussed how much it will cost our children and futures if we do not begin to change our current resources and way of life. He will end with a hopeful and practical plan in how you can support a JUST transition.
