Scarecrow registration for this year's Gildersome Scarecrow Festival closes this Friday!

We're hoping to see even more scarecrows around the village to help make the festival a fantastic day for the whole community. Whether funny, traditional or wonderfully creative, every scarecrow helps bring the event to life.

🔍 Guess the Word Competition
Find the hidden letters displayed on the scarecrows around the village. Collect them all and they'll reveal a well-known children's song. Submit your completed entry and all correct answers will be entered into a prize draw, with one lucky winner receiving £30.

We’re excited to be preparing for another fantastic Scarecrow Festival on Saturday 20th June—but we need your help to make it as brilliant as ever!

⏰ Registration closes on 10th May – don’t miss out!

Simply put… we can’t have a Scarecrow Festival without scarecrows!
We’d love as many residents as possible to take part and help us continue this wonderful village tradition.

🎨 Register to make a scarecrow
Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned creator, everyone is welcome to join in. If you’re not sure where to start, we can offer advice on materials and how to build your scarecrow – and remember, it doesn’t have to be made from straw!

If you don’t live directly on the trail, don’t worry – scarecrows can also be displayed on the grassed areas along the route.

🎶 New for this year – Scarecrow Parade!
We’re also introducing a Scarecrow Parade, so if you’d like to perform or dress up in fancy dress, please register and be part of the fun! Scarecrow outfits are encouraged… but really, anything goes!

🌟 Let’s work together to make this year’s festival bigger and better than ever—we can’t wait to see what you create!

Happy Easter everyone! 🐣🌼

A big thank you to everyone who came along to the Gildersome Parish Council Easter event yesterday – it was lovely to see so many of you there and we hope you all had a fantastic time!

For the decorated egg competition, the winner and runners-up will be contacted directly, as we’re currently reaching out to those who weren’t able to receive their prizes on the day.

A huge thanks again to everyone who took part and helped make it such a special event – without you, these events simply wouldn’t be possible.

🐣 Gildersome Village Easter Event – Saturday 4th April! 🌼

Join us at the Meeting Hall and on the Village Green from 10:30am to 2:30pm for a fantastic day of free Easter fun for all the family!
There’ll be lots happening throughout the day, including:
✨ Easter Trail
✨ Easter Bonnet Competition & Parade
✨ Best Decorated Egg (bring your own or decorate one with us!)
✨ Egg & Spoon Race and other traditional games
✨ Egg Rolling Competition
✨ Face Painting
✨ Petting Animals
✨ Local Community Choir Performance
✨ Buns, Cakes & Refreshments
✨ And… Name Our Brand-New Orderly Barrow!

🐰 The Easter Bunny will also be popping by!

Everything organised by the Parish Council is completely FREE, and everyone is welcome — so come along, get involved, and enjoy a brilliant Easter celebration with the community.

A massive well done and thank you to the volunteers that joined our very early litter pick this morning. You've all done a fantastic job! We will get another one planned very soon🚯🤩
