You can say “I’ll only have interventions if I need them”, but do you know what actually needing them looks like?

Because so many Mums say this, but don’t actually do any prep for what needing them looks like, or have the questions to work out if they really do.

So when someone says “oh, you need an induction, you need to be induced by 41 weeks”, it’s worded like it’s urgent, when actually it’s a recommendation that you can choose to opt in or out of.

So you can say you’ve got every good intention of a birth that’s as natural as possible, but in brutal honesty, are you actually putting in the effort to make that happen? Or are you just hoping it’ll all work out?

And I’m gonna hold your hand while I say this… because the chances are, it’s not going to work out.

This course is the nitty gritty that gets you the birth you want in the system you’re actually giving birth in. Hypnobirthing, antenatal, and how the NHS system really works, all in one place, with your birth partner beside you. So when you hear you need something, you’re both properly clued up.

There’s a version of your birth where you say yes to interventions you don’t need, because you didn’t have the full picture.

Now’s not the time to get stressed out so understand and plan for induction wayyy before you’re actually put on the spot.

1. Ask for the reason in one sentence. “What’s the specific reason you’re recommending this for me?” If the answer is “dates” or “policy”, that’s useful information too.

2. Ask what the risk actually is. Not “the risk doubles”. Doubles from what, to what?

3. Ask what monitoring would look like if you waited a few more days.

4. Ask for time. “Thank you, I’d like to go away and think about it.” You don’t have to decide in the room.

5. Plan for both. If induction is the right call, you go in with preferences for it, not just hoping it won’t happen.

None of this is about saying no. If it’s medically necessary, go for it! It’s about knowing whether it is or if you’d be better off just going home, having a cosy pub lunch and then watching Bake Off…
