Tree Works at Poor Well โ€“ 12 & 13 August

The removal of three poplar trees at Poor Well (Cow Lane, opposite Home Close Care Home), which was originally scheduled for Easter, has now been rescheduled and will take place on Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 August.

The road will remain open, but to allow the contractors to work safely, please do not park along the roadside opposite Home Close Care Home on either day.

We appreciate that this may cause some temporary inconvenience, but these works are necessary to ensure the area remains safe. Thank you for your patience and cooperation while the work is carried out.

Memorial Stability Testing Update

The CDS Group have now completed the routine memorial stability testing at Fulbourn Cemetery.

Where a memorial has been identified as requiring further attention, we are in the process of contacting the registered plot owners. As you can appreciate, this is taking some time, particularly where our contact details are no longer up to date.

Please remember that memorials are the responsibility of the plot owner. If you are a plot owner and notice that your loved one's memorial has been marked following the inspection, we would be grateful if you could get in touch with the Clerk at Fulbourn Parish Council by emailing [email protected].

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work through this process. These inspections are carried out to help ensure the cemetery remains a safe place for everyone who visits.

A great new initiative run by the Cambridge Sustainable Food network.
The Fulbourn collection will take place during the usual Hope Mobile Food Hub on Tuesday 28th July between 10:30-11:30 in the Swifts car park.

Cambridge city residents: do you have a fruit tree, garden, or allotment? Are they producing more fruit and veg than you can use? Why not donate your surplus produce to Cambridge Sustainable Food! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿซ›๐Ÿฅ•๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ

Seasonal gluts are often overlooked as a climate positive food: reducing food waste from these gluts can play a significant role in reducing local emissions, while increasing access to fresh, plastic-free produce โ™ป๏ธ

Thatโ€™s why weโ€™re working with local residents to rescue and redistribute as much seasonal surplus as we can and help it reach the community instead of going to waste. All the produce we collect will be distributed back into the community through local food hubs and social food project networks.

Our first big collection week is coming up at the end of the month, from Monday 27th - Friday 31st July โ˜€๏ธ

We're also running a further two collection weeks in August and September to the summer and autumn to ensure we save as much seasonal surplus as possible throughout the summer and autumn.

Got fruit or veg to donate? Head to cambridgesustainablefood.org/donationdrive to find out more and arrange dropping off your produce. If you're based in Cambridge we can also come and collect from you!

SOUTH CAMBS RESIDENTS: With funding from the South Cambs District Council, we are also working with local food hubs and eco groups to organise collections in South Cambridgeshire villages. Visit our website for more information.

Cemetery update

We've seen recent comments about the appearance of the cemetery and understand people's concerns. We take great pride in maintaining it as a peaceful and respectful place for everyone to visit.

John continues to support the Parish Council, and we are very grateful for his experience and dedication. As his role has reduced, we're working hard to manage the workload while adjusting to the change. Combined with the recent hot weather, rapid w**d growth and the additional work currently taking place behind the scenes, keeping on top of maintenance has been more challenging than usual.

Alongside routine maintenance, we're also digitising our cemetery records to improve security and administration, and carrying out memorial stability testing this week as part of our health and safety responsibilities. If a memorial is found to be unsafe, we'll contact the registered grave owner.

A reminder that this is a lawn cemetery, and the cemetery regulations do not allow planting or borders around plots, as these make routine maintenance much more difficult.

Please be assured that improving the appearance of the cemetery remains a priority, and we will continue working hard to bring it back to the standard that residents rightly expect. Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support.

Free sessions organised by the Fire and Rescue service

Some older adults have expressed a desire to continue driving to maintain their independence but struggle with confidence on the road. The Fire and Rescue service have organised some workshops for older drivers.

Older Driver Workshops - venues, times and dates (see website below)

What should older residents expect from attending? โ€˜Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Older Driver Workshops are free sessions designed for those over 65 and currently driving, to help them keep driving safely for longer. We discuss how driving can become more challenging as we get older, and what simple checks we can do at home to keep ourselves fit to drive.โ€™
