Town Councillor Dwain Longley and staff member Rob Smith attended a commemorative event at Pontefract Castle on Thursday 4th June, marking 80 years since The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) were awarded the Freedom of the City of Wakefield.
Councillor Longley attended in his role with the West Yorkshire Ambulance Service, while Rob attended as representative and Standard Bearer for the Pontefract KOYLI LI and Rifles Association, supporting this important occasion and paying tribute to the regiment’s proud history.
While the event took place in Pontefract, Featherstone Town Council is proud of the representation of both Rob and councillor Longley at the event, reflecting our commitment to honouring the service, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of the KOYLI within our wider community.
In a separate engagement, Rob also attended the Governor’s Review at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, once again representing the Pontefract Branch of the KOYLI LI and Rifles Association. This further highlights the continued dedication to preserving regimental traditions and commemorating those who have served.
A fitting tribute in historic settings, remembering those who served and the legacy they leave behind.
