Yes, Westminster runs the border. Congratulations, you’ve spotted the one true thing in the SNP hymn sheet. Everything else is them laying out the welcome mat, kicking their own people down the stairs, then pointing south and screaming like they’ve been personally robbed.

They spent years posing as the saintly, extra-woke bit of Britain. New Scots this, integration that, “from day one,” extra housing duties, dump the local-connection rule so anyone can turn up and get a roof, clap when a mob stops a van, lecture the country that “illegal” is just a mean word. That’s the red carpet.

Then Glasgow is drowning in cases while half the country takes almost none, refugee homelessness applications explode, families who’ve waited years watch people skip the queue, and SNP councils start whimpering that it’s “untenable.” Their solution? Blame London. After nineteen years running housing, planning and the local state, that’s not analysis. That’s a personality.

And the cultural bit is even richer. Every incoming culture is enrichment, community, “who we are.” The Scots who notice the lists, the hotels, the strain and start leaning right? They’re racists, far-right, embarrassing, not proper Scotland. Official Scotland has a hug for everyone except the people who actually live here and don’t want the lecture. New Scots get the strategy documents and the halo. Old Scots who object get the moral finger.

So they advertise compassion, deliver the shaft to their own voters, treat those voters as the problem, and still act shocked when people get sick of the Westminster pantomime. It’s not a policy. It’s a coping mechanism with a flag.

The same people who spent years sneering that anyone pointing at city-centre disorder was a bigot now get to watch the results: groups of young men treating Glasgow streets after dark like a private arena while the official line remains that everything is “vibrant” and “inclusive.” Knife crime among youths is up in key measures, residents talk about no-go stretches after 10pm, and the response from Holyrood and Police Scotland is more dispersal notices, fewer stop-and-search powers, and lectures about not noticing patterns. If this is the enrichment they campaigned for, they can keep the congratulations. The rest of the city is left locking the doors and wondering when the next clip drops.
