Another great week of campaigning in Exmouth for the Brixington By-election on the 23rd July.

This week my team and I have been:
🚪✊️ Canvassing residents to hear their priorities
📨📥 Responding to case work
✉️📮 Delivering letters to Postal Voters

On Saturday, I enjoyed popping along to Exmouth Festival and speaking to a number of community organisations.

We're back out this week, luckily it's a bit cooler now, to speak to more residents. If you'd like to get in touch, please email me at:

Yesterday, the cross-party Treasury Select Committee published a damning report on our student loan system, and its conclusions are clear: the system is broken and in urgent need of reform.

I have previously argued that young people deserve honesty about the debt they are taking on and what it will mean for their financial future.

The Committee has now found that students were effectively mis-sold their loans. The Government compared repayments to the cost of a mobile phone contract, failed to make clear that the terms could be rewritten after graduates had signed up, and then relied on exemptions from consumer protection law that mean borrowers have virtually no legal recourse.

It also accuses successive governments of taking the "politically convenient option" of loading more and more of the cost onto younger generations, while recommending that the Government reverse the repayment threshold freeze because it has a moral obligation to honour the promises made to graduates.

The reality is that a 9% deduction on earnings for graduates, running for up to 40 years, functions less like a loan and more like an additional tax on young people specifically.

This ‘tax’ makes it harder to save for a home, build a pension, start a family or accumulate wealth in the way previous generations could.

There is now growing cross-party recognition that this cannot continue.

The Government now must listen. Reversing the repayment threshold freeze is the right place to start, but it cannot be the end of the conversation. We need a student finance system that is transparent, sustainable and fair, and I will continue working with colleagues from across Parliament to make that happen.

The Govt. proposals for a tourist tax would decimate the vital tourism and hospitality industry, putting jobs at risk.

5% Holiday Tax + VAT on a holiday for 2 adults and 2 children in Devon could cost an additional £226.67 - a price that families facing the cost of living simply can't afford.

If I'm elected, I'll fight the holiday tax with David Reed MP and send a message to this Labour Govt.

Cllr. Aurora Bailey (Independents, Brixington Ward) is backing my campaign to be the next East Devon District Councillor in Brixington. 💙🤍

For me, delivering for the residents of Exmouth Brixington is priority number 1. Getting things done means working across party lines in the interest of local residents.

Thank you Cllr. Bailey!

The average pub is paying £5,700 extra in Business Rates under Labour. 🥀

Their job tax is costing, on average, £800 per worker and hardworking pubgoers are forced to pay £52 million because of Labour's 3.7% increase in Beer Duty. 💷

One Greene King Pub in Devon experienced a 175% tax hike in one year. Let us know if you're opposed to Labour's war on pubs below 👇

Pubs across England are under threat from crippling tax hikes, including rising business rates and National Insurance costs. These increases could lead to higher pint prices, job losses, and pub closures. Join the Save the Local campaign and sign our petition to stop these unfair charges and protect...
