🌟 A Million Acts of Hope in Epsom & Ewell 🌟

Every day, small acts of kindness help shape stronger, more connected communities. From supporting neighbours to volunteering locally, these quiet, compassionate moments truly make a difference.

That’s why we’re proud to support A Million Acts of Hope – a national initiative celebrating the everyday actions that bring people together 💛

Here in Epsom & Ewell, community is at the heart of everything we do. Through partnerships, cultural opportunities, and inclusive events, we’re committed to ensuring everyone feels welcomed, valued, and able to take part in community life.

As part of Refugee Week (15–21 June), we’re working alongside Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network, who provide vital support including group sessions, language classes, and community initiatives.

🗣️ Councillor Clive Woodbridge, Chair of the Community & Wellbeing Committee said:
“Epsom & Ewell is a borough defined by the strength of its community, and initiatives like A Million Acts of Hope highlight the kindness, compassion and generosity that bring our residents together. I look forward to reading the stories shared by our community – and of course will be adding my own, too.”

📍 From today until 21 June 2026, you’ll find A Million Acts of Hope boards at:
Epsom Library
Ewell Library (Bourne Hall)

✍️ Get involved:
Pick up a postcard, share a story of kindness, gratitude, or community spirit, and add it to one of the boards.

📢 Epsom & Ewell’s Local Plan consultation closes at 23:59 on Monday 15 June – this is your final chance to have your say. The Local Plan, covering the period up to 2040, is now at Examination Stage - the final stage of the Local Plan process before the plan can be legally adopted. We’re asking for comments on documents submitted to the Inspector since October 2025.

The documents, along with instructions on how to comment, are available on the council’s planning policy consultation platform (click on the link in the comments 🔗); printed copies can also be found in local libraries and in Epsom Town Hall during normal opening hours.

We will share all comments received with the Planning Inspector and they will also be published on the council’s website.

Following the close of the consultation, there will be a further one day hearing on proposed changes on Thursday 2 July 2026 at Epsom Town Hall, The Parade, Epsom, Surrey, KT18 5BY. The hearing can be attended by interested members of the public who wish to observe.

👉🏽 TO COMMENT: Consultation documents and information relating to the consultation can be accessed on our consultation platform by clicking on the link in the comments below. Further information on the Local Plan examination can be found here: https://www.epsom-ewell.gov.uk/localplanexamination.

What is Section 24 and why does it matter?

Section 24 is a statutory direction set by central government to help all Surrey councils make major financial decisions during local government reorganisation.

Under Section 24, most councils cannot make big financial decisions on their own and must seek approval from the Shadow Authorities, elected in May 2026.

This will help the new councils start in the strongest financial position possible on 1 April 2027.

Shadow Authorities have also agreed to give ‘General Consent’. This allows councils to continue with normal service provision and approved projects from their 2026/27 budgets, so you can access services without interruption.

Section 24 comes into force later this summer. It does not apply to Woking Borough Council and Spelthorne Borough Council as there are already existing commissioning arrangements for best value.
