Two Weeks of Music, Tradition & Camaraderie

The Combined Lowland Band and The Highland Band The Royal Regiment of Scotland have successfully completed their annual two-week Summer Camp.

The first part of camp was spent in Leuchars, where the bands came together for intensive rehearsals behind the scenes in preparation for a busy programme of public performances. From there, the bands supported Armed Forces Day in Edinburgh, performed a memorable concert in Dunkeld Cathedral, and concluded on the Isle of Man with the historic Tynwald Day ceremony and Beating Retreat.

Tynwald Day, the Isle of Man's National Day, celebrates one of the world's oldest continuous parliamentary traditions, where new laws are proclaimed in both English and Manx Gaelic during an open-air ceremony at Tynwald Hill.

Summer Camp is about far more than rehearsals and performances. It is an opportunity to strengthen teamwork, build lasting friendships and make the most of each location. Whether through open water swimming, cycling, golf, walking, climbing or sightseeing, these shared experiences are just as important as those on parade.

A warm welcome to Musn Tweedie, who joined the band on Euphonium and completed his first Summer Camp with us.

Our sincere thanks to Mark Owen for capturing Armed Forces Day through his photographs.

🇬🇧 Celebrating Armed Forces Day 2026 🇬🇧

Yesterday, Edinburgh proudly hosted Legion Scotland's Armed Forces Day 2026, bringing together serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans, families, and supporters from across Scotland in a wonderful display of comradeship and pride.

The Lowland Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland and The Highland Band The Royal Regiment of Scotland were honoured to join forces in support of this special occasion. As participants marched through the heart of the capital, the warm welcome from the public reflected the deep appreciation held for those who have served, and those who continue to serve, our nation.

Armed Forces Day is a time to recognise the commitment, sacrifice, and service of our Armed Forces community, and we were immensely proud to play our part in such a well-attended and meaningful event.

The occasion also marked a fine start to the bands' summer camp, and we look forward to the weeks ahead.

🎶 A Stirring Evening of Scottish Tradition in Edinburgh 🎶

On Saturday evening, the combined bands of The Lowland Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, The Highland Band The Royal Regiment of Scotland and the Royal Scots Association Pipe Band forces to perform a spectacular Beating of the Retreat at the Royal Scot Club in Edinburgh.

Featuring a programme packed with regimental favourites and Scottish-inspired tunes, the performance helped build excitement ahead of the upcoming World Cup while showcasing the rich musical heritage of Scotland's Army.

The event was very well attended, with many local residents and visitors stopping to enjoy the music and atmosphere on a beautiful Edinburgh evening. It was wonderful to see so many people gathering to support the bands and celebrate Scottish tradition.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a memorable success.

🎶 Day 3: Marching to the Beat at Murrayfield 🎶

Day 3 of training camp struck all the right notes as the band, alongside members of The Highland Band The Royal Regiment of Scotland had the honour of performing at the Scotland vs England Women’s 6 Nations clash at British Gas Murrayfield.

The day was packed with plenty of rhythm and excitement — from soundchecking the anthems, entertaining the crowd, to proudly marching the team coaches on arrival. Every moment was music to our ears.

We were also delighted to welcome Scottish singer-songwriter Cammy barnes for a photo — a lovely bonus to an already unforgettable day.

Another memorable highlight in the band’s calendar, and one we’ll be talking about for many encores to come.

🎶 Training, Teamwork & Friendship 🎶

A fantastic few days so far at our 4-day training camp, bringing together the band and members of The Highland Band The Royal Regiment of Scotland for rehearsals, team building, and plenty of camaraderie. It’s a brilliant chance to strengthen friendships and bring professional music-making together as we prepare for exciting upcoming events.

Tonight, we swap instruments for answer sheets at our quiz night – wish us luck!

Tomorrow, we have the privilege of performing at the Women’s Six Nations clash between Scotland and England, so be sure to tune in and look out for the band, or give us a wave if you’re lucky enough to be there.

A special thank you to Jim Leggat OBE DL for a wonderful sightseeing tour of Dunfermline to start day two of camp, including Dunfermline Abbey, the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum, beautiful park walks, and even some curious peacocks.

Great music, great people, and great memories!
