We recently found out that more than 50 tonnes of food waste was collected in the very first week of this new initiative, which is expected to increase over the coming months. A great result!

For more information about how recycling your food waste benefits the environment, produces renewable energy and saves taxpayers' money you can visit https://www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/foodwaste

Sevenoaks District Council Official

Don’t forget - food waste is collected using a dedicated food waste vehicle, so your caddy may be picked up at a different time to your other waste and recycling.
Please leave your food waste caddy at the edge of your property, near the road and visible to our staff, by 7am, on your collection day. Don’t take in back until it’s been emptied, which could any time up to 4pm.
And remember, following a Monday bank holiday, all food and general waste collections are one day later for a week.

SGN gas pipe replacement project - Dunton Green / Riverhead

We have received the following information today from SGN. Unfortunately, it looks like there will be three months of disruption starting from the end of June:

We are writing to inform you of essential gas network upgrade works taking place in the Dunton Green and Riverhead areas.

These works are part of our ongoing 30-year programme to replace ageing gas mains with new, durable plastic pipe, helping to ensure a continued safe, secure, and reliable gas supply for local homes and businesses.

Our contractor, JDT, will be carrying out these works on our behalf, with activity scheduled to commence during the week beginning Monday 22 June 2026.

Due to the scale of the project, works are expected to continue for approximately three months.

What roads will be affected?

Ivy House Lane, Dunton Green – Will be closed at junction with A224 London Road.
pLondon Road, Dunton Green – Will be operating under two-way traffic signals from outside Mount Pleasant to outside Great Dunton House.

Phase Two – from Monday 6 July for approximately two weeks:
A224 London Road, Dunton Green - Will be operating under multi way traffic signals on junction with Donnington Road.

We are very sorry to report that an area at Longford Meadow is temporarily closed, following criminal damage to a number of trees and plants over the recent Bank Holiday weekend.

This will take significant time, cost and resource to repair, not to mention the disruption to the natural habitat and sanctuary these plants offer to our wildlife.

We'd like to take this opportunity to remind all DG residents that Longford Meadow - along with various other important green spaces including the Recreation Ground, Longford Spinney and The Crescent - is Parish Council property, and damage or destruction of any kind will not be tolerated.

Sadly, this is just the latest in a recent spate of criminal damage and antisocial behaviour around the village, not least at Longford Meadow where several young trees and shrubs have been vandalised or stolen in the past.

Any such activity is a criminal offence and as such will be reported to the police. We are thankful for the vigilance of an eye-witness in this latest instance for alerting us, and we are working with the relevant authorities, including Kent Police Public Protection - Kent to progress the matter and identify those responsible.

We'd like to thank residents for their understanding while we restore the area, and for the support of the vast majority in helping keep Dunton Green such a green and pleasant place to live.

Finally, PLEASE PLEASE do report any suspicious behaviour you see, including antisocial or threatening behaviour, vandalism or similar. It is only by reporting to the police that they can build a picture of this activity and take the relevant action. Always call 999 in the event of an ongoing crime, or report via the online tool at www.kent.police.uk/report or by calling 101. It really does make a difference, even if you don't see results immediately. Thank you.

Take a look at the Hedgehog Street website where there is lots of information and even a map of hedgehog sightings where you can check your area and which you can add to if you have seen a hedgehog - there are some Dunton Green sightings but it would be nice to think there are more!
