A 44-year-old man robbed a 12-year-old boy in broad daylight in Dundee and made off with his football stickers and sweets stash.

Andrew Whyte was caught on CCTV, dressed in all black and with his face covered, carrying out the attack in Douglas two summers ago.

🛡️ Keeping Children Safe – Online & When Out of the Home

Children today spend time both online and out in the community, so it’s important we help them stay safe in both environments.

Here are some simple ways parents, carers and communities can help protect young people:

📱 Online Safety
• Talk openly with children about the apps, games and websites they use.
• Keep devices in shared spaces where possible.
• Use parental controls and privacy settings on devices and social media.
• Teach children never to share personal information online.
• Remind them that not everyone online is who they say they are.
• Encourage them to report or block anyone who makes them uncomfortable.
• Make sure children know they can always come to a trusted adult if something worries them online.

🏡 Safety When Out of the Home
• Make sure children know their home address and an emergency contact number.
• Agree clear times for when they should return home.
• Encourage them to stay with friends and avoid walking alone where possible.
• Teach them to trust their instincts and leave situations that feel unsafe.
• Show them safe places they can go if they need help (shops, libraries, community centres).
• Remind them never to get into a car with someone they don’t know.
• Encourage them to keep their phone charged when they are out.

💬 Most importantly:
Children should always know they can talk to a trusted adult if they feel worried or unsafe.

Together we can create a safer environment for young people both online and in the real world.

DRUNK SCOTS SOLDIER FINED FOR EXPOSING HIMSELF OUTSIDE DUNDEE NIGHTCLUB

A drunken soldier based at Leuchars Station in Fife has received a fine of nearly £1,000 after a disturbing incident outside the Underground nightclub in Dundee.

Elliot Whelpton, 29, refused to pay the entry fee and proceeded to expose himself to a nightclub worker by slap his p***s onto a ledge in front of her, while stating: "I've not got a ticket, but I've got a d***." The incident, which was captured on CCTV and subsequently reported to police, occurred on 25 January of the previous year.
