Meadow cutting at Green Lanes

Thursday 18th June 2026
Thursday 2nd July 2026

Volunteers from the Norwich Fringe Project will be cutting the meadow at Drayton Green Lanes in June this year, rather than their usual early-autumn cut. This is to fight back against the spread of invasive Himalayan Balsam, which outcompetes our native marsh flora. By cutting the plants low to the ground in early summer, they will be prevented from flowering and subsequently setting seed, thwarting their spread.

A section of the meadow will be left uncut to ensure some habitat remains throughout the summer months, providing nectar and food for invertebrates and shelter for amphibians and small mammals.
