It was a pleasure to attend the open day of the The Bubble Community Space in Stanley Street, Weymouth.

The Bubble offers a range of activities including exercise sessions, art, coffee mornings, knit 'n' natter, quiz nights and music lessons.

Saddened at the news of the passing of Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Weymouth and Portland, Peter Rendall.

Our thoughts are with Peter's family and friends at this sad time.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Weymouth and Portland, Peter Rendall.

Weymouth Town Council made Peter an Honorary Freeman of Weymouth at its Full Council meeting in May 2026, in recognition of his service to Weymouth and Melcombe Regis over many years.

As a mark of respect, we will be flying the Weymouth Town Council flag at half mast outside our offices at The New Town Hall, Commercial Road.

Our thoughts are with Peter's family and friends at this sad time.

I was delighted to visit the Nest in Weymouth last week, which is a fantastically friendly place where people can receive help and friendship.

I was amazed at how many of the volunteers had started off as customers – well done to all of them. If anyone wants to consider being a customer or volunteer just call in and have a word with one of the team. Thank you everyone involved!

This morning, I attended the Margaret Green Animal Rescue charity shop in St Thomas Street to meet the new Chief Executive, Joanna Tiffin.

The charity does such wonderful and vital work to improve the welfare of animals, as well as working with, and providing support to the individuals who own and care for them.

Weymouth has a thriving community, and we are proud to have one of the Margaret Green Animal Rescue charity shops in our high street. By working together, we can strengthen connections, build solid partnerships, and support both animals and people during their time of need.

Armed Forces Day is tomorrow, Saturday 27th June. At Weymouth's recent Armed Forces Weekend, thousands of residents and visitors joined together to celebrate and recognise the valuable contributions made by our Armed Forces personnel – past, present and future.

I was also honoured to lay a wreath on behalf of the town during Sunday’s service.

Cllr David Harris has been elected as the new Mayor of Weymouth, with Cllr Peter Dickenson taking up the role of Deputy Mayor.

Members thanked outgoing Mayor Cllr Caroline Nickinson for all her hard work and dedication during her 12 months in office.

It's been quite a year as Mayor of Weymouth. And as the term of office draws to a close and a new Mayor is elected at Full Council meeting tonight, here's a look back at some of the highlights.

From attending events to honour our Armed Forces, engaging with local community groups and attending ribbon cutting ceremonies, raising funds for Weldmar Hospicecare, counting down to the summer firework displays and turning on the Christmas lights, to handing out medals to 'dinosaurs' on Weymouth Beach and meeting BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James, it has been a jam-packed year.

It was a great pleasure to attend the opening of the brand new AIR 107.2 - Weymouth & Portland radio studio this morning, which is situated right in the hear of the town centre. I wish everyone involved in the community station all the very best as an exciting new chapter begins.
