Cllr David Harris has been elected as the new Mayor of Weymouth, with Cllr Peter Dickenson taking up the role of Deputy Mayor.

Members thanked outgoing Mayor Cllr Caroline Nickinson for all her hard work and dedication during her 12 months in office.

It's been quite a year as Mayor of Weymouth. And as the term of office draws to a close and a new Mayor is elected at Full Council meeting tonight, here's a look back at some of the highlights.

From attending events to honour our Armed Forces, engaging with local community groups and attending ribbon cutting ceremonies, raising funds for Weldmar Hospicecare, counting down to the summer firework displays and turning on the Christmas lights, to handing out medals to 'dinosaurs' on Weymouth Beach and meeting BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James, it has been a jam-packed year.

It was a great pleasure to attend the opening of the brand new AIR 107.2 - Weymouth & Portland radio studio this morning, which is situated right in the hear of the town centre. I wish everyone involved in the community station all the very best as an exciting new chapter begins.

I really appreciated being invited to Weymouth Lifeboat Station on Monday, and enjoyed hearing about the Station and the opportunity to go aboard the Ernest & Mabel.

It was really interesting to be able to sit inside and see the environment that the incredibly brave crew work in.

A particular thank you to Teresa Drage for arranging this, and to Dave for a fantastic tour.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us this morning at our annual ANZAC Day service. It was lovely to see so many people in attendance on this very poignant occasion.

Thank you to all who attended my Civic Service on Sunday 12th April. It was great to see so many people join me for a wonderful service, which offered the chance to give thanks to numerous volunteers and organisations in Weymouth for all their hard work and dedication.

Yesterday, Sunday 12th April, the Mayor's Civic Service took place at Holy Trinity Church. Local Councillors, Connor from our Youth Council and representatives from various orgainsations including the RNLI, The Salvation Army in Weymouth & Portland and Weldmar Hospicecare attended the service, which is a chance for the Mayor of Weymouth - Dorset, Cllr Caroline Nickinson to give thanks to numerous volunteers and organisations who do such amazing and valuable work in the town.

I am delighted to share that nominations are open for this year's Mayor's Community Awards.

If you know somebody who goes above and beyond to help others in the community, please do put forward their name to be considered for an award.

To nominate, please contact your local ward Councillor and tell them the name of the person or group you would like to nominate, along with the reasons why by 12pm Wednesday 22nd April.

Nominees will be shortlisted after the closing date and will be invited to Weymouth Town Council’s Full Council meeting in May to receive a certificate.

It was a privilege to meet Greg James last Friday 13th March, as he began his remarkable challenge to cycle 1,000km from Weymouth to Edinburgh on a tandem bicycle for Comic Relief. Thank you to each and every one of you who came out and helped us give Greg a great send off from Weymouth, a place close to his heart.

We are so proud that he has raised over £1 million already for such a worthy cause, and we will continue to follow his journey as he bids to reach Edinburgh on Friday 20th March.

We are delighted that BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show host, Greg James will be starting his 1000km tandem bike ride in Weymouth on Friday 13th March. Greg will be cycling from Weymouth to Edinburgh over 8 consecutive days for the wonderful charity Comic Relief.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming Greg to our lovely town.

It was a pleasure to attend the Chase the Dinosaur event on Saturday and wonderful to see so many people taking part to have fun whilst supporting the Will Mackaness Trust, which is such a worthy cause.

Thank you to James Baker, who recently starred in The Traitors for joining us and helping to hand out the prizes to race winners.
