The UK Government is bringing in changes to how England’s planning system works on 31 October 2026. This means that how we deal with planning applications in Surrey will need to be brought in line with this legislation.
From this date, minor applications will be determined by senior Planning Officers, rather than the Council’s Planning and Regulatory Committee. Major planning applications will continue to be scrutinised by the Committee if they meet the new criteria to do so.
• Surrey County Council only deals with applications for minerals or waste-related developments, and for developments to our own property, such as schools and libraries.
• Planning applications for housing developments are dealt with by District and Borough councils.
Planning applications should continue to be submitted as normal to the relevant authority. More information is available here: https://orlo.uk/ZZ8rB
