The revolving faces of Doncaster Reform's leadership over the last 12 months 👇
Alexander Jones - Reform UK Mayoral Candidate, Edenthorpe and Kirk Sandall Councillor:
Jones was a candidate for Edenthorpe and Kirk Sandall Ward, before hastily stepping up to be the Mayoral candidate due to the preferred candidate chickened out at last minute. Jones' lacklustre performances in media and hustings, as well as vague commitments to the airport, saw many voters snub Reform as their Mayoral choice. As a Councillor, who is often not seen or heard from in meetings, as per previous posts, he receives £4k for attending (or NOT attending) the Fire and Rescue Authority meetings, and didn't attend the local Remembrance Sunday service, doesn't attend Parish Council meetings, didn't give £2,300 of his ward members budget to community organisations.
Guy Aston - Wheatley, Wheatley Hills and Intake Councillor:
Aston was the sensible voice who emerged to lead Reform's group, after it was clear Jones was out of his depth. Aston committed Reform to the November decision to back the loan funding. He was then ousted by Councillors after claiming he had received "vitriolic texts that border on abuse". He is also the guy with the facial expressions during the 🛸 speech.
Craig Ward - Leader, Roman Ridge Councillor:
After rebelling a number of times on Reform whipped votes, Ward was not the obvious pick for the new leader after Aston resigned. Little known beforehand, Ward was thrust into the spotlight and media light during Doncaster Council's Budget meeting. His "It is what it is" response to being caught out lying during the meeting has not gone down well with the electorate, or his colleagues. Who apparently plan to oust him shortly. Ward has been mostly missing in action in meetings since the budget meeting. He attended the recent meeting regarding Airport funding but most of the talk was done by...
Jason Charity - Deputy Leader, Conisbrough Councillor
Charity has been credited as the brains behind Reform's Councillors. Little seen in Council due to his work commitments during the week in Bristol, Charity has been ever more vocal on Doncaster Sheffield Airport. He has pushed the opposing view to Aston prior to November's meeting, and was instrumental in Aston's ousting as leader. As Deputy Leader of the Reform Group, it is expected he will take over when his colleagues replace Ward in the coming weeks. He did pieces to camera after the recent airport funding meeting, whilst Ward sat outside the pub opposite the Council building.
Irwin Martin - Reform Doncaster Branch Chair
Martin previously stood for Parliamentary candidate in the Doncaster East and Isle of Axholme constituency. Vocal against the Council's airport plans, the Mayor and Chief Executive, he has been platformed in place of Ward since the Council's budget meeting due to Ward's media performance.
Andrew Isaacs - Advisor
Isaacs was Nick Fletcher's advisor when Fletcher was an MP. Having switched to Reform, Isaacs now advises Reform Doncaster (either in paid or unpaid work). He is seen at Council meetings speaking to Reform Councillors. Isaacs was brought in after the previous (paid) advisor was let go of after her 6 month probation period.
Changes will no doubt take place, after Reform's disastrous first 12 months in Doncaster.
