* Today we have a 1813 map shows how small the city (top middle) and Waterside were 200 years ago, before Derry’s Victorian growth. Interesting to see the 1791 old wooden bridge over the Foyle and, at top of map, the Infirmary & Poor School. Place names outside the city incl Tirmonbacca, Kilfenan, Gobnaskeal & Tullyalli. Prominent landowners identified - Knox, Prehen, Babbington, Lecky & Sir J Strong. How many old roads survive & what key changes have there been?

* Here we have a once common sight on the Foyle, the Foyle Fairway dredger, in use 1961 to 1977. With a couple of other dredgers, it kept the river channel open by scraping deposits and removing them. Who recalls how this operation worked, where the material was deposited and are dredgers still required on the Foyle?
