A quick reminder that there is no Rhyme Rhyme Story Time this Thursday (17th September 2026) as our lovely volunteer Veronica is having a well earned break.

Also our book list has been submitted for purchase with the recent further funding from Oakwood Ward Councillors so hopefully we will have more new books soon. Be quick though, as soon as they come in they literally fly off the shelves! 📚📚📚

Book Club Day UK (11 September 2026) will be a day that celebrates the joy, connection and impact of shared reading, while supporting more people to start or join book clubs in their communities. To help everyone celebrate Book Club Day UK, there is a fantastic, free online event that book clubs or individuals who love reading can join to take part in the celebration. 📚📚📚

Ruby Gray will host a special conversation with author Yassmin Abdel-Magied and historian Dr Michael Durrant exploring the history — and future — of book clubs. In conversation, they will share their thoughts about the importance and history of shared reading and book clubs and how this may have affected personal and social change over time.

As a result of a further application to the Oakwood Neighbourhood Board, Oakwood Ward Councillors have awarded your Library with more funds to buy books! It’s all very exciting 📚📚📚
You may know we have a suggestion box in the library however we are keen to spend the money and buy the new books.
If there is a particular book(s) that you would like us to purchase for your library, either pop it into the box or comment on here, just the author and title please. Obviously once purchased, the books will be available to the whole of Derby Libraries but its home will be with us at Springwood. 📚📚📚

A couple of lovely shakers made at our last craft session of the summer holidays!!

Rhyme, Rhyme, Story Time news for the next few weeks! Please read if you are planning to attend the session on Thursdays 11-11.30 over the next 3 weeks.
There is some new legislation coming in which requires Enhanced DBS checks for staff and volunteers who deliver regular children's activities at the libraries. At first we were told the activities would have to be postponed untl the checks were fully completed, but today we have been told that we can continue them as long as the DBS checks are under process.
Our volunteer, Veronica, who delivers the sessions will be on holiday for 2 weeks in September too. Unfortunately, currently we do not have a staff member who can cover for her in her absence.
SO:
Thursday September 3rd: This session will be going ahead as usual!!!
Thursday September 10th: NO RRST
Thursday September 17th: NO RRST
Thursday September 24th onwards: RRST every week as usual!!!

We do apologise for any incovenience or confusion. Bookie Bear is looking forward to seeing everyone!!

More new books! 📚📚📚 We have a wish box in the library for your book suggestions. With recent money raised at Oakfest and sale of books in the library we bought new books and a lot of them are YOUR suggestions!
Pop in and take a look, you can always drop your suggestions in the box so we can consider them next time.
