What is the Summer Reading Challenge?
1 in 4 children cannot read well by the age of 11. This hugely limits their life choices and skills.
The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to keep reading during the summer holidays, ensuring they are ready for a great start to the new term in the autumn.

The theme “Read to the Beat” inspires children to explore the connection between stories and songs, discovering how reading and music both ignite imagination and creativity.

Children set a reading goal and collect rewards for reading anything they enjoy. You can sign your child up at the Library and it’s FREE to take part. 📚📚📚 We launch on 5th July but information is available in the library now.

We are in the process of having the library computers upgraded (at last!) so unfortunately they are unavailable today whilst the printer software is updated. We have a stall at OakFest, Derby this year and we would love to see you all there. In preparation for our book stall, we are accepting donations of good quality books that are no older than around 4/5 years. These books will be sold on our stall with all proceeds going back into the volunteers fund to buy new books. If you have any newish fiction books that you would like to donate pleased drop them in to the library. (Only when we are open please, don’t leave them in the doorway) We are unable to take bulk donations of old books as we have nowhere to store them. The Library is open today 10-4, Wednesday 3-7pm and Thursday 10-4pm. 📚📚📚

There will be no Rhyme, Rhyme, Story Time next week (Thursday 18th June, 11-11.30am) as Veronica, our volunteer who runs it will be enjoying a well earned holiday! Rhyme Rhyme Story Time will be on again on the 25th June! See you then!!⛱️☀️

Celebrating our brilliant volunteers for Volunteers' Week. They give up a little of their spare time each week to open our library where you can have a chat, hire a jigsaw, swap a magazine or two and even borrow a blood pressure monitor. One of out volunteers make beautiful handmade cards to sell and another hosts Rhyme Rhyme Story Time each week. We have craft sessions for the children during school holidays and much more. Why not come and support us….or even better, come and join us if you have a little spare time. 📚📚📚
