🚨📣 Have Your Say: Appeal Could Permit Year-Round Parking and Commercial Activities on the Riverside Meadow 🚨

📄An appeal has been lodged by the landowner against an enforcement notice served by Babergh District Council. The Council considered that the current 28-day annual limit on non-agricultural use of the meadow had been exceeded.

⚠As part of the appeal, the landowner is seeking planning permission for a permanent change of use of the riverside meadow. If permission were granted, the site could legally be used for vehicle parking and commercial activities on any number of days each year, rather than being limited to 28 days. The final decision rests with the Secretary of State through the appeal process.

To the residents of Dedham,

One of the main priorities of the Parish Council over the last three years has been to address the excessive usage of the meadows by the river in Dedham, resulting increased pollution, major hazards on the local roads and having a detrimental effect on the wildlife.

Babergh Council have issued a notice to the landowner of the meadows to cease trading on the meadows. He is allowed 28 days per year but this year we estimate he has had over 50 days.

The landowner has appealed to the Councils decision and the Parish Council is calling on all residents to support Babergh Council and not to support the appeal by the landowner.

Attached below is the appeal notice.

I am happy to advise if you wish make any comments

🌿 Public Rights of Way – 2026 Cutting Schedule 🌿

Following Monday’s Parish Council meeting, during which a number of residents raised concerns regarding the condition of local public footpaths, we would like to provide an update.

The Parish Council will shortly be displaying the 2026 Public Rights of Way cutting schedule on all Parish Council noticeboards to help residents understand when individual footpaths are due to be cut.

To make it easier to identify footpath numbers and report issues, we would also encourage residents to use our interactive Public Rights of Way map, available here:

https://dedhamparishcouncil.gov.uk/footpath-and-walks/

If you believe a footpath requires attention, you can:
• Report it directly using the online form on the interactive map; or
• Email the Parish Clerk, quoting the footpath number and providing a brief description of the issue.

The Parish Council will review all reports received and, where resources allow, will seek to arrange additional cuts where these are considered necessary.

We are grateful to everyone who takes the time to report issues and help us maintain Dedham’s network of public footpaths for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.
