This week we welcomed the Dalbeattie Beaver group to the lifeboat station as they work towards their safety badges.

Our volunteer crew talked to the children about the work of the RNLI and showed them our lifeboat, tractor and kit.

It was lovely to see such enthusiasm from the entire group as they learned about water safety including how to float, not to go into the water to help someone and how to call 999 to ask for help.

Finally they were able to watch the lifeboat launch for a training exercise before the visit finished.

We're looking for shop volunteers here in Kippford. We would particularly like to hear from you if you have free time on a Tuesday or Wednesday however all applications are welcome as we try to have shop availability throughout the summer months.

Practice session for our trainee launch vehicle drivers in the sunshine last night.
Driving the tractor and trailer requires skill and situational awareness. The launch vehicle driver also needs to know what to do in the event of an emergency and coordinate with the lifeboat crew for launch and recovery.
All these skills are assessed by an RNLI trainer before individuals are approved to operate the launch vehicle in live situations.

In 2025, RNLI lifeboat crews helped 8,290 people and saved 272 lives, making it the sixth-busiest year in the charity's history.

That trend is reflected in the statistics here at Kippford with 9 launches last year including 3 in the hours of darkness. Once again we are putting out our own 'Mayday' call, asking you to get involved in our biggest national fundraising event, The Mayday Mile, to help fund our vital lifesaving service.

Participants are challenged to cover a mile a day for the month of May, with every penny raised helping to make sure that we have everything we need to keep people safe this summer and beyond.

You may be forgiven for thinking spring was here (we were certainly hoping it was!) however Dave has other ideas.

There is a named storm approaching the west coast of Scotland on Saturday. Currently there is a yellow warning for wind in our area. Storm Dave is due to bring a period of high winds from Saturday afternoon through into Sunday.

As it is Easter weekend we expect plenty of people to be enjoying our beautiful coastline. Please take a moment to check the weather forecast and avoid waterfront areas or exposed cliff tops whilst the weather is bad.

If you see someone in trouble on the coast dial 999 and ask for The Coastguard.

On International Women's Day we celebrate all the women who give up their time at Kippford RNLI. We have amazing women volunteering in afloat roles, shore positions in the shop and on our fundraising committee.

But we are all supported by an equally amazing team of men who treat everyone the same regardless of gender.

In the RNLI we are 'One Crew' and we know that we are all better together. We hope that our crew demonstrates that anything is possible with courage and hard work.

Behind the scenes at a lifeboat station, today at Kippford we received our replacement lifejackets.
Lifejackets are regularly taken away for servicing and when this happens our volunteers attend the station to swap all the equipment between the old and new jackets.
Thanks to the crew of Gordon, John, Ross, Laura and Martin for giving up some time on a Sunday. Many hands make light work 💪
