We remember the 255 British servicemen who never came home. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🇬🇧

The Falkland Islanders’ right to determine their own future must always be defended.

🏡 SCRAP STAMP DUTY ON FAMILY HOMES 🏡

Last year, Conservatives announced we would abolish stamp duty on people’s main homes, helping to make home ownership more affordable and getting the housing market moving again.

New analysis suggests that our plan could save home buyers here in Havering an average of £12,838 when moving.

That is money which could instead help families furnish their new home, meet other moving costs or support local tradespeople and businesses.

🔑 Scrapping stamp duty would make it easier for young people to get onto the housing ladder, allow growing families to move into a suitable property and remove a major barrier for older residents who want to downsize.

Stamp duty is a tax on aspiration which adds thousands of pounds to the already considerable cost of moving.

These plans would give more people the freedom to move, grow and put down roots in our community.

Speaking on the issue locally, Chairman of Dagenham and Rainham Conservatives, Matej Travnicek said:

“Havering deserves better than policies that negatively interfere with how we live our lives. It is time to ditch the Net-Zero dogma. On the one hand we have virtue signalling from the left and on the other we have Reform promising what people want to hear but delivering very little. Only the Conservatives have a plan to support the environment alongside cheap power. Our Cheap Power Plan will save Havering residents £200 a year by cutting green subsidies, axing the Carbon Tax and removing VAT for three years.“

🏥 PROGRESS ON QUEEN’S A&E + MORE UPDATES FROM INTERIM CEO 🏥

Last week I met Fiona Wheeler, the new Interim Chief Executive of Queen’s Hospital, to discuss issues residents regularly raise with me.

We discussed Baroness Amos’ review of maternity services, which has just reported after taking evidence from local families.

The review raised a number of concerns about the Trust, which we talked about in detail, despite progress being made following recent CQC reviews.

They are now working through an action plan of further improvements so that parents can be confident in the quality of care that they and their babies receive.

✅ A key part of our discussion was the Trust’s plan for a new A&E at Queen’s.

As many of you know, the department continues to operate under intense pressure.

I’ve repeatedly pressed Ministers and NHS leaders to support the hospital’s plans for a modern new A&E that can properly meet local demand.

The Trust is now seeking £42 million for the project. Its final business case is expected to go to the Trust Board for approval at the end of July and if approved, construction could begin as early as November.

📋 We also discussed concerns about waiting lists, including delays in radiology, cancer diagnosis and meeting the 18-week treatment target.

Some of these backlogs are linked to the rollout of the new Electronic Patient Record system, when certain services were paused.

The Trust is working with NHS regional teams to clear the remaining backlogs by November.
