The Blackdown Hills Festival of Heritage offers something for all ages, from archaeology workshops, historic tours and guided walks to natural pigments, printmaking and creative writing.

Explore an Iron Age hillfort, uncover the story of RAF Culmhead, visit historic churches and abbeys, or discover the archaeology beneath your feet.

Step back in time with the Blackdown Hills Festival of Heritage 2026

This September, join us for a programme of free events celebrating the rich history, archaeology, landscapes and stories of the Blackdown Hills National Landscape.

Discover the ruins of Dunkeswell Abbey, explore Hembury Hillfort, learn about local archaeological finds, enjoy creative workshops, walk alongside the River Culm, and be inspired to write, print and paint through our local heritage.

Heading out to watch the eclipse? The landscape is currently very dry, and it only takes a single spark to start a fire.
🔥 Don't light barbecues or campfires
🚬 Dispose of ci******es safely
🗑️ Take all litter home, especially glass bottles and jars
☀️ Avoid using mirrors, magnifying glasses or other objects that could focus the sun's rays

We’re very pleased to share that the Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) programme at the Blackdown Hills National Landscape will continue for a further three years, until March 2029.

We are now welcoming enquiries from farmers, land managers, and landowners who are interested in developing new projects that support:
🌱 Nature recovery and biodiversity
🌍 Climate change mitigation and resilience
🚶 Access, access improvements, and public engagement with the landscape
🚜 Sustainable and nature-friendly farming businesses

FiPL offers funding for practical, on-the-ground projects that help deliver lasting benefits for People, Place, Climate, and Nature.

If you have an idea you would like to explore or would like to discuss what is eligible for funding, we would love to hear from you.

Come along to Seaton Wetlands tomorrow for a family wetland adventure!

There will be face painting, yoga, nature crafts, stream dipping and more as we celebrate the final day of Axe Rivers Festival 2026.

Time: 11am- 3pm
Place: Seaton Wetlands (head to the discovery hut area and there will be plenty to see and do!)

🌟 Axe Rivers Festival 🌟

The Rivers Run Through Us team kicked off this week long celebration of the Axe rivers with a wonderful nocturnal wonder along the river last night. What better way to celebrate Earth day than sharing the night with with foraging bats, herons going to roost and imagining the underwater wonders of the river at night. Thanks to all who joined us!
