๐ŸŒŸ New Blog๐ŸŒŸ
aims to empower widows, enabling them to begin again through enterprise.

One such widow is Collette, from Burkina Faso. After the death of her husband, Collette faced both emotional pain and financial uncertainty. With seven children to care for and limited options available, Collette fell into despair.

But everything changed for Collette when ACT supported three of her seven children, and she became part of the ACT widow empowerment initiative in Burkina Faso.

๐ŸŒŸ ACT Success Story๐ŸŒŸ

"Thank you for believing in me and investing in my future. Your kindness and
generosity will always be remembered, and I pray that God will continue to
bless your organisation and its work."

Elizabeth was born in Zambia and tragically lost her parents at a very young age from HIV/Aids. She was living with her grandmother but got taken away as her grandmother was making her dance in drinking places for money. Her new guardian earnt a little money selling odds and ends but her income was not sufficient to care for Elizabeth.

She started being sponsored by ACT in 2010, when she was in grade 5. With our financial support, she was able to continue excelling at school and completed a diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Copperbelt University.

In 2022, she was awarded the Martin Phillips Scholarship, a fund to inspire girls from disadvantaged background that ACT is supporting to access STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and to study these at university degree level. She went on to study ICT at Northrise University and graduated this year.

In a letter she recently sent to ACT, Elizabeth expressed her "deepest gratitude for the generous sponsorship that has supported my education since primary. Your organisation's commitment to empowering students through education has made such an impact on my life... Without your support none of this would have been possible, so I once again
want to say how grateful I am."

The success of our beneficiaries in their endeavors is the highest reward we can receive at ACT, and our fast-growing alumni network is a testament to the positive impact of education and support on people's lives.

Right now, your donation will go twice as far.

Every donation to is being matched by a generous donor, doubling your impact for widows in Tanzania.

Widows living in rural communities in Africa face many different barriers to success, where opportunities are limited. By providing trauma relief, vocational training, and seed funding, we can change this and help to restore hope, dignity and economic independence to vulnerable widows.

The impact of success goes far beyond the individual widow supported. Women reinvest their earnings into their children and share business opportunities with other women. You aren't just helping one widow, you are enriching a community.

National Volunteer Week๐Ÿ’

This week, we are celebrating the fantastic behind-the-scenes work done by our wonderful volunteers.

Here are Dorea and Brenda, who both spend their Mondays volunteering with ACT. Brenda is the heart and soul of ACT, providing supporter care for donors for more than 10 years. Dorea is a valuable member of the team, interning since January in Fundraising and Events ๐Ÿ“†

We could not do what we do without the time and care given to us by our current and past interns, so a big thank you to our stars! ๐ŸŒŸ

Today, we stand alongside our Ugandan brothers and sisters for National Martyrs Day๐Ÿ™

On June 3rd, Ugandans remember the persecution of Christians, who were killed because they refused to give up their faith. 22 Catholics and 23 Anglicans lost their lives, and are memorialised by a national feast day, a shrine and a pilgrimage โœ๏ธ

ACT honours their memory, faith and bravery. ACT has been working in Jinja, Uganda, since 2005. In that time, many children have been sponsored through their education, with eighteen children going on to university ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽ“

Our June campaign is here!

We're raising ยฃ15,000 for our Sustainable Whole Life Skills Widows Project in Kagera, Tanzania.

After the huge success of the project in Nigeria and Burkina Faso, we're ready to bring back the same support to widows in Tanzania, where unemployment and low confidence leave many widows struggling to rebuild their lives.

Our project aims to empower widows and restore their self-esteem through the provision of counselling and vocational skills training, helping them build a secure future for their families.

You can be a part of it by donating or organising a fundraising event in your local community. Every penny raised will go directly toward counselling, training materials and equipment to help widows start their own small businesses.
