Great to see another footpath repair on St Mary’s/Dent Rd completed in Cottingham South. Working together with Peter North and Sharon Hofman from Hull’s Bricknell Ward, we’re continuing to improve local pathways and make our communities safer and more accessible for residents.

‘If you’re worried about someone, please speak up’💙
Recently I’ve been dealing with a number of welfare concerns involving residents of all ages young and old.

Whenever I come across a situation that worries me, I always ask myself: “What if this was my family member?” I would hope that someone would speak up and take action.

That’s why I always report concerns. It costs nothing to raise a concern, but it could be the missing piece of a much larger jigsaw. I’d never want to look back and think, “I should have said something.”

For me, doing the right thing is always more important than doing the easy thing.

We hear far too many heartbreaking stories where opportunities were missed because nobody spoke up. If something is concerning you about a friend, neighbour, family member or resident, please get in touch or report it to the
appropriate service.

It may turn out to be nothing, but it could also be the intervention that makes all the difference.

Please don’t stay silent if you’re worried about someone’s welfare.

Incidents of Domestic Abuse Increase During High Profile Sporting Events

While many of us look forward to the England game, major sporting events can bring increased fear and risk for people experiencing domestic violence or abuse.

If it's happening to you, or you're worried about someone else, help is available. And you don’t have to wait for an emergency to get help.

🚦 Road Safety, Zebra Crossings and Traffic Concerns 🚦
We regularly receive requests from residents about zebra crossings, speed limits, traffic calming measures and other road safety concerns.
ERYC continually assesses road safety across the county using a range of information, including police-recorded collision data and site assessments carried out by specialist highway engineers. Any proposals for new crossings, speed limit changes or traffic-calming measures must also comply with national legislation and Department for Transport (DfT) guidance to ensure they are lawful, effective and suitable for the location.
Like all local authorities, ERYC has limited funding and resources. This means schemes must be prioritised where there is clear evidence of a road safety issue and where intervention is most needed. While not every request can progress to a formal scheme, every concern raised is reviewed and considered.
If you witness dangerous or careless driving, please report it directly to Humberside Police. Through Operation Snap, members of the public can submit dashcam, cycle-cam or mobile phone footage, allowing the police to investigate and, where appropriate, take action.
Providing clear video evidence along with the date, time and location of the incident gives the best chance of a successful outcome.
For more information on Operation Snap, visit:www.humberside.police.uk/operation-snap
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to raise concerns and help improve road safety in our communities.

COTTINGHAM SHOPWATCH

The Cottingham SHOPWATCH scheme is going from strength to strength with 61 members and over 2 years of alerting each other to ASB and shoplifters in the Village.

This group is a partnership between Humberside Police and our local businesses.

The local police team are delighted with its success and thousands of pounds have been saved due to the dedication and diligence of SHOPWATCH members.

Please look out for which shops are in the scheme - they will have a poster in their window.

If you wish to join the scheme, drop me an email.

Thanks and have a good day.

Regards,

Carolyn

Myself and fellow Labour councillors have been out engaging with residents in the Wheatley Drive and Taylor Avenue area which is in Cottingham South.
We would like to thank everyone for their warm welcome and friendliness. The issues raised will be brought to the attention of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

We discussed a range of local concerns, including parking restrictions, speeding vehicles, and the children’s play area, which is in need of care and attention. These matters are important to local residents, and we will continue to work with the council to seek improvements.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with us and share their views. Listening to residents and standing up for our community remains a key priority.
Please get in touch if you feel there’s something we can help you with.

Through the summer, the risk to the public through accidental drowning increases significantly.

During Drowning Prevention Week, which runs 13 – 20 June, Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK is encouraging everybody to keep safe but still have fun by raising awareness of water safety ahead of the summer.

We will be supporting this week by showcasing what we offer to help people gain the skills you might need to stay safe in the water.🏊
