📣 CALLING COTTINGHAM SHOPKEEPERS AND BUSINESSES

Alongside Dame Diana Johnson MP, local businesses are invited to a further Shopwatch meeting with the police and local councillors.🛒🛍️

This will be an opportunity to:

✅ Raise concerns about shop theft and anti-social behaviour
✅ Speak directly with those responsible for policing and community safety
✅ Discuss practical steps to make Cottingham safer for businesses, staff and customers
✅ Hear about new measures to protect retail workers and tackle shop theft

A SEPTEMBER UPDATE FROM COTTINGHAM SOUTH 👋

Below is a snapshot of my latest report to Cottingham Parish Council, I thought I’d share some of it here too.

🚌 Buses: I asked Mayor Luke Campbell about extending all-day bus pass travel to East Riding residents. Officers are now looking at the costs and options. We’ve also asked Stagecoach to consider a later number 18 bus.

🚗 Road safety: I’ve requested further speed monitoring on Hull Road. Police patrols around Bacon Garth School are set to increase at drop-off and collection times, and parking enforcement near the Hallgate School zebra crossing is being prioritised.

🌿 Around the village: The muddy waiting area at The West Bulls bus stop has been tarmacked, and the village centre has had a welcome visit from the street sweeper. I’ve also reported pavements needing cleaning and other local issues raised by residents.

🏘️ Listening to residents: Kevin, Alex and I have been out speaking with people around Inglemire Lane and Travis Road. We’re following up concerns about speeding, pavements, trees, asbestos and communal areas.
I’ve also raised residents’ concerns about funeral services and possible ground rent increases with the appropriate people.

I was pleased to attend the opening of Cottingham Men in Sheds. Cottingham Shopwatch continues to support local businesses, and I’m keeping in touch with residents about concerns relating to the Biowise/Wastewise site.

We are starting the conversation for World Su***de Prevention Day (10 September)

For this year's global campaign on a local level, we are coming together with our partners across the East Riding and Hull – from our councils to the NHS, regional mental health services, to voluntary and charity organisations.

We are united in our aim to change the narrative around su***de prevention.

🌳 A QUICK UPDATE ON TREES 🌳

Following concerns raised by residents about trees becoming too large and the amount of falling leaves, I contacted East Riding Council for advice.

The Council explained that size, falling leaves, blossom and minor branches are not normally reasons for pruning or removing a healthy tree. Trees will continue to be regularly inspected, with work carried out if safety concerns are identified.

Discover the East Riding's history, with over 100 free events this September 🏰

The Heritage Open Days, will run from Friday 11 September to Sunday 20 September will include venues and events across the county, including locations normally closed to the public. 🛩️

This includes walks across the county, including in Cottingham, Hedon, Goole and Beverley, as well as a tour of Laurel Vines 🍇

There will be a guided tour of Beverley Minster, as well as Beverley Friary, the Priest’s room and bell tower and St Mary’s 🏰

A 48 page free brochure, produced by Beverley Civic Society, is available from local libraries, churches, cafes and hotels and can be found at https://orlo.uk/4LCNg

All venues and events are free and the brochure has been supported by VEY (Visit East Yorkshire), Beverley Town Council, the Yorkshire Wolds Heritage Trust, the Georgian Society of East Yorkshire, the Friends of Beverley Minster and the Beverley Civic Society.

Dear Villagers,

As I start another political year serving the residents of Cottingham South, I remain proud and determined to represent our community and to make sure local people’s voices are heard.

Being elected to represent Cottingham South is a privilege, and one I never take for granted. I am proud of the work we have done together and of the issues we have raised on behalf of residents.

There is always more to do. I will continue to stand up for our village, listen to residents, challenge where necessary and work for better services, safer streets, stronger community facilities and the investment Cottingham deserves.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me, contacted me with your concerns, shared ideas and worked alongside me over the past year.

Cottingham is our home, and I will continue to work hard to make it an even better place to live.

Another political year begins — and there is plenty still to do.

🚧 NEW FOOTPATH – CASTLE ROAD

Work is due to begin on Monday 7th September to create a new footpath along the grass verge on Castle Road.

The path will improve pedestrian access to Castle Hill Hospital and the bus stop at Willerby Low Road.

Temporary multi-way traffic lights are expected between 9.30am and 3.30pm, with work scheduled until 25 September, weather permitting.

Please allow extra time when travelling through the area.
