Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital trusts in the country treating over half a million patients each year. We provide comprehensive secondary care and specialist services to a local population of 675,000 people across South East Hampshire. We also offer some speciality services to a wider catchment of around two million people. Our population is characterised by its diversity – the rural and the urban, areas of wealth juxtaposed with real pockets of deprivation, and gaps in life expectancy. Most of our services are provided at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, but we also offer a range of outpatient and diagnostic facilities closer to patients’ homes in community hospital sites and at local treatment centres throughout South East Hampshire including St Mary's Treatment Centre, Gosport War Memorial Hospital and Petersfield Community Hospital. ⭐ Staff spotlight: Meet Acacia a.k.a Casey, one of our Band 5 midwives here at PHU! ⭐

Casey qualified as a midwife in September 2025, after being inspired by the midwives who cared for her during the births of her own children. She says: "I wanted to give other women and families that same feeling of reassurance and care I received."

For Casey, one of the greatest privileges of being a midwife is supporting families as they grow, while witnessing the incredible strength, determination and love of women every day.

One thing Casey is keen to highlight is what being a midwife really means. For Casey, It's being alongside women and birthing people, listening to them, advocating for them, providing reassurance and helping them feel informed, supported and confident throughout their maternity journey.

As a newly qualified midwife, Casey says she feels incredibly fortunate to work alongside such a supportive multidisciplinary team, who are always there for a cuppa, a laugh, or a debrief after a difficult day.

Thank you, Casey for everything you do! 💙

From today, Monday 7 September, our Vascular Assessment Unit has moved to a new location within the QA Hospital site and is now based in the Rehab Building (D Level).

All inpatient and outpatient appointments with the vascular imaging team will take place at this new location. Appointments for patients seeing a consultant (Vascular Surgery) still need to attend outpatients in the main hospital - this will be confirmed on your appointment letter.

Patients and visitors attending the assessment unit are advised to park in the North Car Park and walk alongside the Rehab Building, entering through the same entrance used for the Discharge Lounge.

📞 Please note that the team's contact details remain unchanged, so you can continue to use the same phone numbers as before.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in supporting the move and helping ensure a smooth transition for our patients and staff.

Self-referrals for pregnant women will now take one to two days versus a previous completion time of around six to eight weeks, thanks to a new automation system introduced at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Each year, we receive around 7,000 self-referrals to our trust. By automating key admin steps, the system creates patient records, sets up BadgerNet, allocates a midwife and books initial appointments and scans.

Sam, Kirsty and Kevin (pictured), led the project from its initial stages through to its successful launch. With these changes, waiting times will been significantly reduced.

Turn on NHS App notifications to know when your bowel screening kit is on its way 📲

For 20 years, NHS bowel screening has been helping find bowel cancer early, often before symptoms appear.

Bowel screening is a test you do at home. It’s offered to people aged between 50 and 74. When your kit arrives, complete and return it. Don’t put it off.
