Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital trusts in the country treating over half a million patients each year. We provide comprehensive secondary care and specialist services to a local population of 675,000 people across South East Hampshire. We also offer some speciality services to a wider catchment of around two million people. Our population is character

ised by its diversity – the rural and the urban, areas of wealth juxtaposed with real pockets of deprivation, and gaps in life expectancy. Most of our services are provided at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, but we also offer a range of outpatient and diagnostic facilities closer to patients’ homes in community hospital sites and at local treatment centres throughout South East Hampshire including St Mary's Treatment Centre, Gosport War Memorial Hospital and Petersfield Community Hospital. Last week, as part of National Volunteers' Week, some of our senior leaders stepped into the shoes of our volunteers to experience first-hand the difference they make every day.

From supporting patients and visitors to helping teams behind the scenes, the shadowing experience offered valuable insight into the dedication, compassion and commitment our volunteers bring to QA Hospital.

Take a look behind the scenes and see the impact our volunteers have across the Trust every day. πŸ’™

Meet the Pharmacy Team! πŸ’Š

Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes to ensure medicines are available when and where they are needed?

Join the Pharmacy Team in the Atrium at Queen Alexandra Hospital on Tuesday 16 June for a 'Meet the Pharmacy Team' event. This is an opportunity to meet members of the team, learn more about the services they provide, and gain a better understanding of the work that supports patient care every day.

Members from the patient collaborative and patient experience teams will also be on hand to hear your feedback and provide opportunities to share your views.

As comes to a close, we'd like to say a huge thank you to all of our incredible volunteers across PHU. πŸ’™

This week we've had the pleasure of meeting just a few of the amazing people who give their time to support our patients, visitors and colleagues:

From left to right:

❀️ Karen - "Caring for people is part of who I am." After more than 50 years in nursing, Karen continues to support children and families in our paediatric unit.

πŸ’¬ Alison - "I love talking to people." A former hospice leader and nurse, Alison now spends her time listening to patients and learning about their experiences of care.

🌱 Kim - "It's a joy and privilege to work here." After retiring, Kim joined PHU to care for the Garden of Life, helping create a beautiful space for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy.

🀝 Su - "I enjoy keeping people company." As an Autism Ambassador, Su loves chatting with patients, especially those who may not receive many visitors.

Thank you to every volunteer who gives their time and kindness to make a difference every day. πŸ‘
