The Equality Party

The Equality Party We aim to unite people from diverse backgrounds to fight for equal rights and opportunities, so that everyone can contribute and thrive. Thank you!

We are a political party in England, Scotland and Wales that puts equality at the top of the political agenda. Other parties make statements about ‘fairness’ and equality. We believe that prioritising equality and dismantling structures that create inequality are the solution to the problems we face, not nice-to-have outcomes. Our policies include

- Universal free childcare, so that families can

thrive
- Affordable housing – built for people, not developers
- Low-cost, reliable and frequent public transport
- Towns and transport that are fully accessible for all
- Taxing wealth
- Valuing paid and unpaid care work
- Ending violence against women and girls and getting justice for victims
- Challenging polarisation and hate. We are trans-inclusive and stand with asylum-seekers and all vulnerable people. We stand for a new type of economy – not designed to put more money in the pockets of the rich at the cost of everyone else and the planet. Our economic policy (‘doughnut’ or ‘circular’ economics) is centred around a system that ensures everyone, and the planet, can thrive. We believe our democracy is broken and demand a proportional voting system in which everyone’s vote counts, and decision-making that includes diverse voices. There is abundant evidence from around the world that this will create a better life for all. Equality really is better for everyone. Like many people, we are alarmed at the recent rise of populism in the UK, the tendancy to blame ‘others’ (such as refugees) for problems caused by government decisions, and the use of flags and so-called ‘patriotism’ as tools of division. Some equality debates are nuanced and affect people deeply. One-line simplistic statements posted to invoke outrage, or 'click-bait' are spam and will be removed from our page. Unlike the big parties, we do not have billionaire backers or large PR teams. We are ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing. If you like the sound of this, please support us. We fundamentally reject the polarisation of politics, and know that British people are essentially decent, fair-minded and believe that everyone deserves a chance to thrive. When elected, we implement real action to make it happen – disability access schemes, community safety, domestic abuse services, action on hate crime including misogyny and homo/transphobia, better public transport, and much more. Our goal is to get representatives elected up and down the country so that we can make real change from the grassroots, and ultimately at a national level. The party already has councillors in England and Scotland. Kay Wesley and Susan Mead are Councillors in Congleton Town Council. Kay was elected in 2019 and Susie in 2023. David Renton is a Community Councillor in Scotland. They are having a huge impact on the lives of people in their areas, removing barriers for many including families, older and younger people, those in deprived areas, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ people, and minoritised groups. You can read about their work in their bi-monthly blogs on our website.

Our thoughts are with the family of Henry Nowak during this incredibly difficult time. The police bodycam footage was both heartbreaking and deeply concerning. The family deserves answers regarding the failings that preceded this senseless killing. We hope the ongoing IOPC investigation provides the transparency and accountability the family deserves.

However, we are also deeply concerned that against Henry’s family’s wishes, his death has been politicised by far-right groups and parties. Attempting to score political points from a tragic loss of life is abhorrent and shows little regard for either Henry’s memory or his grieving family.

Many victims of violent crime do not receive the same degree of attention from these groups, raising legitimate concerns that this tragedy is being used selectively to advance a political agenda rather than to seek justice for Henry and his family.

Those responsible for this crime must be held accountable. But further dividing communities, spreading misinformation, and inciting hostility or violence will not deliver justice. Exploiting tragedy for political gain serves only to deepen divisions at a time when compassion, truth, and accountability are needed most.

Finally, we ask that everyone respects the family’s wishes for privacy.

Our thoughts remain with Henry’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🌈

Pride began as a protest and remains a powerful reminder that progress is won through collective action.

This Pride Month, we celebrate LGBTQ+ communities, while remaining committed to equality, dignity and human rights for all.

Everyone deserves the freedom to live openly, safely and without discrimination.

Our unpaid Councillors Kay, Susie and David turn up week in week out and work long hours for their community. Farage doesn't bother for his almost £100K salary. Who would you rather elect?

Imagine a job paying nearly £100,000 a year… and you can just not turn up 😬

Not in your workplace.
Not for your customers.
Not even for the people you’re supposed to represent.

That job exists. It’s called being an MP.

Nigel Farage hasn’t participated in a single parliamentary vote since March. Not one. While people in Clacton expect representation, their MP has been absent from the job he’s paid nearly £100,000 a year to do.

Nigel Farage is rarely seen in Clacton or in Parliament. And right now, there are no proper rules forcing MPs to actually show up and do the job they’re paid to do.

MPs earn £98,599 a year. The UK average salary is about £39,000. People working hard every day are right to expect better.

That’s why it’s so important that as many people as possible sign Caroline’s petition ✍️

We need to send a message loud enough that Parliament can’t ignore it. Let’s help Caroline smash through 10,000 signatures and force this issue onto the agenda.

If you believe MPs should have proper standards, real accountability and actually turn up for work, sign and share the petition today 👇

Our Leadership Team member Abby Smith at the Trans Rights protest in Manchester today:

"My name is Abby.
I wear many hats: I am a scientist, a mother, and a proud union member. I am the co-chair of the Trans-Intersex-Non-Binary network at the University of Manchester, the Chair of Congleton Pride, and a leader within the Equality Party. I am neurodiverse. I am a trans woman.

And right now? I am furious.

But we cannot let fury be the end of the story. We have to focus.

Over the past year, I have sat in the boardrooms of senior leaderships. I have sat across from my MP, delivering the same trans-awareness workshops I provide to my community. I spoke, and they listened—but the question remains: Did they actually hear us?

This week, I stood for election. I wasn't successful this time, but the experience changed me. On the doorsteps, I realised that most people aren't against us—they are just exhausted. They are worried about their rent, their job security, and their healthcare. They feel powerless.

Our strength is growing. Our networks are more robust than they were a year ago. But the next step is the hardest: we must bridge the gap into 'cis-dominated' spaces. When people work alongside us, laugh with us, and know us, the media’s caricature of our lives falls apart. It is much harder to discriminate against a person whose name you know.

That is exactly why the EHRC guidance is so dangerous. It is designed to push us to the margins. Out of sight, out of mind. It seeks to sever our connection to the rest of the world.

We must also remember: we are not the only ones in the crosshairs. The same machinery of lies and media manipulation used against us is being turned on migrants, the neurodiverse, and the vulnerable. Effectively, anyone who isn't cis-het, able-bodied, and wealthy is a target.

Discrimination doesn't change its tactics; it only shifts its focus. We must show solidarity. We must exchange our lessons and our strength. Because when they try to push us out of sight, we must stand together—unmissable and unafraid."

If we take away one thing today, it is this: We will not on let the bastards grind us down!"

Today the people of Congleton North Ward have their first opportunity to vote for the Equality Party. Dr Abby Smith has run a fantastic campaign and lots of people support our policies. Good luck Abby!

20/05/2026

💪 Abby Smith already works hard in the community and will be a brilliant councillor for Congleton.

😞Throughout her campaign, she has received abuse by a small section of the community. Not because of her beliefs or her policies, but simply because of who she is.

🏳️‍⚧️ These attitudes are the exact reason why we need more Equality Party councillors in Congleton and everywhere.

Vote for Abby and on 21st May.
