šŸ“¢ Have Your Say – Older People’s Parliament 2026 šŸ“¢

As Age Friendly Champion for Causeway Coast and Glens Cllr Tanya Elder would encourage all older residents to take a few moments to share their views and experiences through the Older People’s Parliament survey.

On Thursday 15 October 2026, older people from across Northern Ireland will have the opportunity to raise the issues that matter most directly with decision-makers at Parliament Buildings.

Whether your concerns relate to health services, transport, community safety, loneliness, housing, digital inclusion, or any other issue affecting later life, this is your chance to help shape the discussion and ensure your voice is heard.

Your views matter and will help determine the key topics discussed at the Older People’s Parliament.

Please take part and encourage family members, friends, neighbours and community groups to do the same.

We would simply ask people to show their support for this worthwhile initiative, which seeks to honour and remember a Limavady man who was tragically murdered by the IRA.

Proposal to Remember Marcus McCausland

SEFF in conjunction with The McCausland family propose to erect a plaque and portrait image in remembrance of Marcus McCausland within the Keenaught suite of The Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre, Limavady.

Marcus was killed by the Provisional IRA on 4th March 1972 whilst serving as an active Councillor.

The proposed wording for the plaque is as follows:

Marcus Edgcumbe McCausland

Councillor within Limavady Urban Council (1968-1972)
High Sheriff of the County (1967)

His life was taken in the Northern Ireland Troubles on 4th March 1972

A loving family man and public representative dedicated to serving the community of Limavady,

He is remembered by all who knew him for his spirit and kindness.

His ambition for unity and opportunities for all people lives on in our hearts, reminding us of the importance of peace and reconciliation.

We seek your feedback on this proposal which is about the respectful remembrance of someone who gave much to the political, economic and social fabric of the local area and community.

The family are not motivated by politics but are justly proud of someone who was a trailblazer, particularly within the business community at a time when there was significant financial hardship, Marcus sought to build the community up and demonstrated leadership and courage in doing so.

Marcus’ legacy is not restricted to, nor the property of any one section of the community, the family wish for him to be remembered for his humanity and common decency.

Please respond with any comments by 1pm on Friday 26th June 2026, by emailing [email protected]

If you are an organisation and could do so using your letterhead, that would be appreciated, otherwise individual responses are also very welcome.

Yours faithfully,

Kenny Donaldson MBE David Hallawell
(SEFF’s Director) (Advocacy Support Worker)

Alan Robinson MLA šŸ“£

Pleased to see the Health Department announce additional funding of Ā£1.1m for adult hospice services and Ā£500,000 for the Children’s Hospice. This is money that will provide short term stability to the four adult hospices and the Children's Hospice.

Throughout last year we worked on a Palliative Care Inquiry as we believed that the healthcare system was failing to support patients at the most vulnerable time of their lives. End of life care being dependent on cake sales, fun runs, charity football matches and many other ventures, while very welcome income, but it is unacceptable that Palliative and also End of Life Care is funded by good will rather than an appropriate level of Government funding.

During the inquiry I had the solemn pleasure to visit, the Adult Hospice, the Children's Hospice and Foyle Hospice. The most amazing places staffed by amazing human beings.

Can you ever imagine the births of children in hospital at the beginning of life being dependent on charitable donations so why should end of life care be dependent on being topped up by charitable donations.

It is important that a long term plan, as envisaged by our Palliative Care Inquiry, be delivered upon.
