Press Release

Colchester City Council ‘coalition’ doomed to fail

To avoid confronting the truth of successive years of failure at Colchester City Council, the reduced Conservatives and the flip flop Liberal Democrats have ‘agreed’ to work as a coalition for the people of Colchester. Driven by personal ambition, the Liberal Democrats are reduced to name calling. Instead of ‘honouring’ their cheap rhetoric and propaganda statements, in their hypocrisy they have now joined with the Conservatives - having previously joined with the diminishing Labour Group - and now solely for their very political survival.

The Conservatives are desperate to cling to the vestiges of what was once their position within the Council. They will clearly ally with anyone that saves them - even temporarily - from their inevitable electoral plunge into oblivion.

Reform UK secured more than 17,000 votes in the May elections in Colchester – from a total of just over 58,000 cast.

Andrew Harding, Reform UK Group leader said; ’To marginalise 30% of the people that the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats purport to ‘represent’, is democratic hooliganism. Their combined total was barely 40% of votes cast. By ignoring the people who chose ‘change’ over self-aggrandisement and failing coalitions, and who have repeatedly and wilfully destroyed Colchester with a myopic determination for self-protection, both patronises and belittles all those people who voted for Reform UK’.

He further said; ‘Remember, too, those voters were only allowed to vote because of Reform UK. They voted for the change we represent – the old guard is terrified’.

The dwindling support for all other parties – the Labour Party Group only managed less than 14% of the vote - before their split and fracture - points to the dying gasps of successively failed previous administrations.

Reform UK Councillors who are elected to sit on the council at Colchester City will continue to strive for Colchester and all that makes it great.
Reform UK represents Family, Community, Country. We will never lose sight of that for political expediency or the disgraceful self-preservation shown by other parties.

Proud to be standing for Brightlingsea Division 👇

Aimée Louise Keteca is already serving as a District Councillor for the Bentleys & Frating and is committed to standing up for local residents across Brightlingsea and surrounding villages.

A mum, military wife and community representative, Aimée works locally in Great Bentley where she grew up, giving her a strong understanding of the area and the challenges facing local families.

She believes growth must come with the right infrastructure—roads, school places, GP access and local services—so our communities can thrive.

Aimée is passionate about protecting the identity of our towns and villages. She believes current housing targets are too high and must be reduced to ensure sustainable development that works for residents.

She also supports efforts to challenge local government reorganisation, recognising that rural and coastal communities like ours risk being overlooked if decisions are centralised.

Aimée isn’t a career politician—she’s stepping up to represent her community, listen to residents, and deliver.

Real change only happens if you vote for it.

Proud to support Keith Coomber for Lexden & Braiswick and Lexden👇

Your Reform UK candidate for Colchester City Council (Lexden & Braiswick) and Essex County Council (Lexden).

Keith is standing to demand higher standards for local residents. He believes we need safer streets, responsible development with proper infrastructure, and real value for council tax.

He is focused on tackling overdevelopment without the necessary roads, school places, and GP access, and ensuring decisions are made with common sense and accountability.

Keith is committed to strong, practical leadership that puts residents first.

Real change only happens if you vote for it.

Proud to support Daryl Swain for Greenstead & Wivenhoe St Andrews 👇

Your Reform UK candidate for Colchester City Council (Greenstead) and Essex County Council (Wivenhoe St Andrews).

“We have City Council and Essex County elections on the 7th May. This election feels especially important, and your voice genuinely matters. The choices we make now will shape our community’s future, from the services we rely on to the opportunities available to the next generation and investing in our shared priorities.

Like many residents, I believe local government should focus on the basics, spend public money carefully and take responsibility for the decisions it makes. Too often, that standard has slipped.

Roads and routine maintenance.

Our roads in Greenstead are deteriorating, with potholes and repairs that do not last. Council tax should deliver safe, well-maintained roads as a priority.

Residents are entitled to expect that the basics are done properly. Essex County Council filled 26% fewer potholes last year than the year before.

Value for money and accountability.

People are paying more while seeing less. Decision-making feels remote, and scrutiny is weak. I will press for transparency, careful spending, and clear accountability so residents know their money is being used responsibly.

I’ve proudly lived in Colchester for nearly 30 years and care deeply about our community. I started and ran two successful businesses, creating jobs and understanding the challenges facing small enterprises. As a former Secretary of a local youth football club and keen cyclist, I believe in healthy living, teamwork and opportunity for young people.

This is why I am standing as your Reform UK candidate in Greenstead and Wivenhoe St Andrews.

Votes are essential I would be honoured to earn your vote.”

Real change only happens if you vote for it.

Proud to support Max Maxwell for Maypole & Berechurch 👇

Your Reform UK candidate for Essex County Council (Maypole) and Colchester City Council (Berechurch).

Ex-military | Former teacher | Political realist

Max is standing because he believes Britain — and our local area — needs real change. After serving his country and shaping young minds, he’s seen first-hand that the old parties have failed to deliver.

Residents are facing rising costs, stretched services, and infrastructure that simply isn’t working as it should.

He is committed to prioritising our community, improving roads and infrastructure, supporting local businesses, and ensuring public money is spent responsibly.

Max wants to see practical action, not more of the same. If you vote the same, you get the same.

Real change only happens if you vote for it.

Proud to support Sue ETTRITCH for Highwoods 👇

Your Reform UK candidate for Colchester City Council (Highwoods).

Sue has lived in Colchester since 2008 and has seen standards steadily decline. From poorly maintained roads to reduced street cleaning and neglected public spaces like Castle Park — residents deserve better.

She believes it’s time for accountability, improved services, and putting taxpayers first.

Sue is stepping up to be a strong local voice and to push for the basic standards our community should expect.

Real change only happens if you vote for it.

Proud to support Dean Dasley for St Anne’s & St John’s 👇

Your Reform UK candidate for Colchester City Council (St Anne’s & St John’s) and Essex County Council (Colchester St John’s).

Dean is totally new to politics, but brings a clear determination to represent local people properly. If elected, he will be a voice for the silent majority who have been ignored for too long.

He is focused on the issues that matter — improving road and pavement safety, tackling potholes and dangerous walkways, and ensuring roadworks are completed efficiently without causing unnecessary gridlock.

Dean also believes development should only happen when infrastructure is in place first — not as an afterthought.

Above all, he is committed to delivering real value for money across local government.

Real change only happens if you vote for it.
